Hi

I’ve posted previously and I thought the following could be quite interesting to many on this Board

I have RLS , and am an otherwise fit , lean 63 yo male in uk taking no other meds than that required to control RLS which I have been now doing for about 4 years . My RLS only affects me at night

As written previously I was one of the many in this group who augmented on ropinirole after reaching 1mg/ day and I then moved into Pregabalin , presently on 275mg / day in sync with Mayo Clinic Algorithm having briefed my out of date Uk neurologist.

In due course the neurologist also added 250mg Clonezapam/ day as I didn’t like the side fx from Pregabalin and didn’t want to take it any higher as 275mg / day was not enough to control sufficiently. The new combo controlled it pretty well getting up just once a night and a walk for 5 mins , go back to bed and to sleep!

Over past 12 mths , however my regular doctor has put me under some positive pressure to reduce/ get off the Clonezapam element of the prescription.

I reduced to 125mg / day which still helped and then took it to zero - surprise , surprise the RLS reverted to being a problem again requiring 3 x 10 min walks per night to get any sleep which was not good !

I had tried and take multiple usual supplements mentioned here which I’m sure are good for me but do nothing for my RLS sadly however I had found a new one about a year ago that I had kept in drawer as not needed to try out till the last mth and this is where things get interesting!!

The product is Native Origins “ Calm Legs” made by Biomedical research labs in USA ( pics attached )

In short the product impact in combi with the usual 275 mg pregabalin / day has been immediate and dramatic in my case . It’s effectively got me back to where I was when combining with Clonezapam and a bit better which was completely unexpected , now a month in.

I’ve carefully studied the product detail and the “ magic “ ingredient looks to be 800mg valerian root extract which has some positive research views from what I’ve seen

Anyway , I’ve tried almost everything non prescription that’s legal and this has been the only breakthrough I’ve had .

A few questions here to the many who know much more than I

1) any experience of Valerian root extract as a supplement in its own right taken for RLS

2) has anyone used the Native Origin Calm Legs supplement here and what’s their experience?

3) is there anywhere one can buy native Origins Calm legs in Uk as a year later it seems to be unavailable/ out of stock. I’ve only found one US site BRL Nutrition ( Biomedical Research Labs own online shop) that will ship . It works out about £18/ mth I think which is ok as it works for me.

thanks in advance

Leslie

Why do you think it's the Valerian root? Many on here swear by ferrous bisglycinate taken at night, others swear by magnesium.

Those pills contain iron AND magnesium.

It may be that your low brain iron (main cause of RLS) has responded to the iron.

Because I’m already taking those with zero effect !

Fair enough. If you can't find it in the UK, you could perhaps experiment by adding 800mg Valerian Root to your supplement regime.

Yes , Thanks , yes definitely going try that out as an alternative and see if I can get away with half the dose if that’s the magic ingredient !

You can buy native Origins Calm legs on Amazon.

Valerian root is known to help RLS.

That's great that it now controls you RLS without clonazepam! So pleased for you.

This product was readily available in the uk before the pandemic and I used it to control my RLS then during the pandemic you couldn’t get it. That is when my RLS became chronic and severe. I ordered some from the US but it got list in transit.

Fast forward 5 years and I am now chronically ill will refractory RLS and debilitating arthritis in my feet. I have been on every possible combination of drugs and currently take pregsbalin and buprenorphine plus anti- inflammatories - .

I do wonder if I had remained on the native origins product maybe things would not have progressed as they have. The pregsbslin caused weight gain and that plus the constant walking at night seems to have caused the issues I currently have with my feet.

So I think if it’s working carry on with it - the Valarian will add to your sleep and is a well known natural remedy for RLS - good luck with it all .

Valerian was awful for me so it’s interesting to hear that it doesn’t affect everyone negatively.
