This has nothing to do with RLS or maybe it does. For some reason I came across this recent study.

Co-Administration of Iron and a Bioavailable Curcumin Supplement Increases Serum BDNF Levels in Healthy Adults

pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articl...

Some interesting tidbits...

Key Findings

Significant BDNF Increase: The group taking low-dose iron (18 mg) with curcumin (500 mg) showed a significant 26.34% increase in BDNF levels from mid-point to end-point of the study

Ferritin Levels: The study found that participants with low baseline ferritin levels (<50 μg/L) showed the most significant increases in BDNF when supplemented with low-dose iron and curcumin.

Duration: The study was conducted over a 6-week period, suggesting that benefits may be observed within this time frame.

So what are the benefits of Higher BDNF?

Improved cognitive function: BDNF is associated with memory, learning, and overall brain health.

Neuroprotection: Higher BDNF levels may offer protection against neurodegenerative conditions.

Enhanced iron absorption: The study suggests that curcumin may improve iron uptake, particularly in those with low ferritin levels.

Interesting as this article says it may decrease the absorption of iron or have no affect on it. turmeric.com/turmeric-overv....

Interesting article... Isn't wonderful all the ways a scientist can say, "We just don't know"?

"Turmeric, with much higher polyphenol content than chili, could reasonably be expected to have a greater inhibitory effect (based on prior lab studies). However, results showed the opposite. Dietary intake of turmeric in supplement form (500 mg/day) did not inhibit iron absorption in women consuming iron-fortified meals, while chili powder did. (i.89)

The bottom line, as researchers point out, is that it is hard to predict how any food, spice, or herbal supplement will behave based on one factor. Although the polyphenol content of any of these can inhibit iron absorption, it may not. Spices such as turmeric that contain many polyphenols are complex compounds that have equally complex effects in the body. (i.89)"

When do you drink this for best results? How much of each ingredient do you suggest?

Teaspoon of turmeric, shake of cinnamon, a few twists of black pepper,32 grains of cayenne (according to taste 🥵) and a dollop of honey--+ or what passes for honey these days!🙃. Drink nice and hot. Enjoy.

Great that it works! But a teaspoon of turmeric powder is unlikely to have 500mg of turmeric which this study uses.

I'm in the US. What is another measure for grains? Like ml or tsp... Also what is the cocoa amount? Thx

Cayenne can only be measured by your taste recepticles. Everyone has different tolerance. I'm using Tesco cayenne powder. I shake a minute amount onto a teaspoon and put in what would fit on a wet finger tip.

Teaspoon of cocoa.

It's a very personal recipe ---- feel free to experiment according to taste.

I can envisage my guitar pickin friend using a bit of THC into the mix if allowed in your state.????😎

Answering Mr crow - I'm not trying for a therapeutic dose. To get that ,I would have to put in a bucket of turmeric.

Not what you're looking for?
