I have an alert for all new RLS developments. There has been nothing new - except the AASM relegating DAs to end of life scenarios.
There are no new drug treatments.
There was a gene study by Dr Steven Bell and that mentioned that other drugs could be 'repurposed' for RLS based on the gene study.
Dr Stefan Clements was working on Ecopipam several years ago and filed for a patent to use it alongside DAs. He was hoping ecopipam would stop the up regulation of D1 receptors. There's been no news on that for ages.
I suspect the new 'research' in the European RLS group will be based on the Mayo and AASM. And will stress the benefits of iron infusions as first line therapy. And they might also relegate DAs.
Out of interest, who is the man talking?
Another interesting video on that site is a more extensive commentary on the dangers of DAs which does give some indication of potential new treatments. Perhaps not due to some in her or any regular readers but I did hear Dipyridamole mentioned which I think I have read mentioned on here.
I think this all relates to a ‘sleep conference’ which was held recently?
Another video posted yesterday. Both this one and others seem to agree that Iron therapy is a valid treatment and ‘first line’

There's lots of recent videos.
Hopefully, the tide is turning and the UK and Europe will start to follow the Mayo Clinic Algorithm and the new AASM guidance.
The serious complications of dopaminergic meds is becoming more widely known amongst sleep experts and neurologists. But DAs remain first line treatment AND meds amongst UK GPs.
That is an uphill battle.
