I am a 75-year-old male and have RLS. Over the last 30 years or so I have taken a lot of different medicines. Pramipexole was the best until it became the worst. I am now off pramipexole and on Oxycodeine 20mg twice a day for the last 2 years. It has killed my sex drive. What can I do?JoeR

Most opioids can have this effect. However, this article states that Buprenorphine has the lowest rate amongst opioids.

You can ask your GP to switch you to Buprenorphine.

You can make a straight switch overnight.

The equivalent dose will be about 0.4- 0.6mg sub lingual pills.

Buprenorphine works brilliantly for many of us. However, in many areas of the UK, it is 'red listed' which means your GP can't prescribe it without the recommendation of a neurologist. Even then, there is a postcode lottery as some areas will not allow GP surgeries to prescribe it even if a neurologist recommends it.

So ask your GP.

Run with me on this one ....I have already "admitted" i developed an unhealthy affinity to Colombian marching powder as a result of DA use. I can feel totally confident in it being the cause as after a 6 month struggle with relapses , I am over 2 months clean with absolutely zero cravings . What changed ? I ceased pramipexole 2 months and 1 week ago . ( My entire outlook on life changed within a week of ceasing it , it was literally an epiphany) The main effect the narcotic had on me was an obsession with sex ( totally internalised) . The dopamine spike caused by cocaine being the trigger .

I have recently read that while a high caffeine dose causes a similar dopamine spike , the irritability and jitters are very unpleasant ( I've seen my wife after a cup of my stove top coffee !) . BUT combining it with L Theanine ( an amino acid extracted from green tea) counteracts the negative aspects of caffeine. It is being trialled, with success, as a treatment for ADHD as an alternative to methamphetamine treatment . And I've trialled it for the last 2 nights , in combination with other lifestyle changes , to help my RLS . ( I'm not ready to "recommend" it as a tx yet but it is showing very good promise)

My point....As long as there are no contraindications to caffeine ( hypertension , aneurysm , ) see what 200 mg caffeine ( typical content of 500ml of energy drink ) and 200 mg of L Theanine does .

Ah I see, so you had a double whammy because DAs on their own can also cause hypersexuality I believe

In some cases. Lots of suffering could be avoided if EVERYONE forgot about dopamine agonists. Sooner or later they will turn on you, guaranteed.
