They both commonly - but not universally - trigger what the BNF lists as "appetite abnormal" amongst various other potential side effects.

Whether this happens and whether it leads to weight gain is, as Madlegs says, down to the individual.

BTW, if you look at the BNF there are long lists of possible side effects listed against *all* drug treatments. This doesn't mean that some/they will necessarily impact all users, or that all drug treatments should be avoided: it's a balance of benefits.

They can but pregabalin is more likely. A study of 3187 taking 150-600 mg/day the majority maintained weight within ±7% baseline weight. One in six patients gained >= 7% weight pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/224... A fact sheet put out by St Josephs Healthcare says weight gain occurs in 2 - 9% of patients taking pregabalin.

And as noted by Chris, the main reason is an increase in appetite.
