I think Strawberries are aggravating my RLS?!

Hello,

I think we are all familiar with if you had a terrible night with your legs you think back to everything you did in the afternoon/evening. I think eating strawberries at night is irritating my legs. Has anyone else experienced this?

While an RLS reaction to strawberries themselves has been mentioned very occasionally on here in the past, they'd normally be considered safe enough.

Did you eat the strawberries 'straight' or did you add sugar and cream as my mother always did? If the latter, it could just be that the added sugar in the evening could have triggered RLS.

One can develop (usually temporarily) an intolerance to strawberries, but more commonly that would manifest as a rash or itch rather than as RLS...

As much as I hate to suggest it, you might have to experiment by cutting out the strawberries in the evenings for a bit to see what happens! Good luck!

Your post was particularly interesting and, hopefully, helpful because after a particularly bad night I remembered that I had eaten strawberries with yogurt late in the evening.

Hi, strawberries are a histamine liberator - not that high in histamine themselves, but if you are having problems clearing it in a timely manner then they may be a problem. There are links for some between histamine and RLS and histamine clearance can be a problem for those with autoimmunity or vitamin and mineral deficiencies (like B12, which is needed for both routes that we generally use to clear it). Or you could have just eaten too many (!) or too many other high-histamine foods too close together, or it could be a weather reaction (I get those and histamine is high now due to solar stuff and storms) or hormones. Histamine causes insomnia, so you may also have just been more aware as more awake. Magnesium can be enormously helpful - I spray mag oil on skin.
