After putting up with extreme restless legs symptoms for 30 years, I went on a low fructose diet 7 years ago and symptoms stopped immediately.
These days I can get very mild symptoms occasionally if I stray from the low fructose diet.

Sugar in general is one of the known triggers for RLS. Do you limit sugar intake in general or is it only fructose? Fructose malabsorption (and excessive consumption) can be linked to quite a few metabolic diseases including IBS, colic and some cancers.. Great that you found that reducing consumption solved your RLS symptoms!
That's interesting. And great for you!
What made you decide to try a low fructose diet?
A nutritionist suggested it because l was always bloated and very gassy.
I'm delighted for you.
that’s great 😊 I drink fruit cordial which says it has no added sugar and I don’t take any sugar in tea or coffee so my sugar intake is fairly low but will drink water instead of cordial and anything else that has added sugar and see if that helps.

hello Jefit - can I ask what your diet looks like? Can you let us know what a typical breakfast, lunch and dinner looks like? If you would prefer you could message me directly - im just a bit confused because I would think that fruit has quite a high sugar content but is so good for a person - so I just wouldn’t know where to start with trying to put this in practice - but I’m willing to try anythjng!
Hu Drls. I am attaching a link.
I know nothing about MNGI so I am not recommending their site. It's just that their Low Fructose Diet Guidelines table is closest to the list of foods that I was given.
I started by avoiding high fructose foods and then gradually introduced some until I knew what troubled me personally. I definitely have to go wheat free.
We are all different, but good luck with your trial.
FYI - high fructose corn syrup is the bane of modern processed food composition. Fructose as in fruit is a different version. Yes, it's all still sugar but crystaline fructose has a low glycemic index (becomes glucose slower when digested). fructosefacts.org/about/hig...
That is great news for you but not sure it would work for me.For 30 years I have had no sugar in tea or coffee, no sugar on porridge, no sugar on fruit (even rhubarb) and I drink water not squash & still I had RLS until I took buprenorphine.
Thanks Jefit. Yes I did so many different diets, fodmaps with dieticians etc but to no avail. But it is great if you can find triggers.
thanks for that - it is always good to have little pieces of the puzzle. I have gone on a high meat low carb diet so no fruit and my symptoms are a lot better. I suspect also that the highly available heme iron in meat also contributes.
