It has taken a year to get here, I have found the most dramatic thing that helped was a low oxalate diet and just recently, a keto diet. Ihave had RLS seven years. every night I would be awake for hours. I started the low oxalate diet and noticed a difference straight away. Then I started a keto diet and some nights I don;t wake at all. Now, I might wake up with slight twitching, if I get up and go to the loo, by the time I get into bed, it;s gone. If anyone is interested, lowoxalatediet, is the most up to date site. Hope this helps everyone!!

Well done. I remember someone else posting that they had great success with a low oxalate diet.
Hi Kit,
I posted that a low oxalate diet had helped me. I was tempting fate and it didn’t last. Next I found that an anti inflamation diet improved my condition, then I found that Floradix magnesium almost cured my rls. which I’ve made great a great deal of. BUT the dreaded rls has returned plus cramp in my feet !!
Trying to analyse it - Having been ill and unable to shop I’ve been drinking cows milk, rather than goat’s, for a few days. Can something so simple have such a big effect ?
Hi Lois, you have to keep it up, and try the keto, that makes a huge difference together! The keto is high fat which is needed for the nerves, which I believe is at work with RLS. The fat protects and heals the nerves. The Floridex only has 130mg magnesium. That is a very low dose. Magnesium malate is one of the best at a higher dose.
Hi Kit,
I’ve been taking 250mg of Floridex as well as almost every other kind of magnesium as well as malate in shower gel, lotion and body spray (more is absorbed through the skin than the digestive system) which leads me to realise I stopped the magnesium sulphate body spray but things still continued well for a while. Probably help lies in a combination of treatments but starting or stopping doesn’t have an immediate effect so very difficult to analyse. I’m starting the body spray again today. It was more than a fortnight before I felt benefit from it initially.
There seems to be many opinions about the advantage of goats milk over bovine milk. From what I have read both contain lactose but goat has about 25% less. However there are also other differences so that it is quite possible that the source of the milk might make a difference in some people.
In my case the difference between lactose free and "ordinary" milk is sufficient to cause a large fraction of my RLS so it sounds like you should go back to the goat's milk for a couple of weeks and see if the RLS goes away again.
If you are too sick to go out can you buy goats milk from a local on-line shop?
Cheers
Graham
Thank you Graham. My cold is better now and I was able to get out to get goats milk today. The tiny corner shop who delivered whilst I was out of action doesn’t keep goats milk. I understand that sheeps is better but I can’t find that although I have been able to buy sheeps yoghourt. Perhaps I should try a milk substitute
Hi LT, I’m not sure where it stands on the low oxalate - or other diets but I find oat milk is an almost acceptable substitute for cows milk. My children actually prefer it. Almond milk is also worth a try.
Also, sorry to hear your symptoms have returned. It was so nice to hear things were better for you. Hopefully they will improve again soon.
Glad that you've found your solution, mine is cutting out sugar and sweetened foods. The sweetest things I eat is jam or marmalade on my toast at breakfast time and an apple or banana after my lunch.
