Can anyone please tell me if spironolactone interferes with RLS? If so, are there any other b/p meds that can be a good substitute? I'm already taking HCTZ and lisinopril.

Unfortunately all diuretics can make RLS worse for most.

Thank you for the speedy reply! So increasing my HCTZ (which currently doesn't seem to bother my RLS) and adding an additional diuretic could cause my RLS to get worse?

It's possible but everybody is different. The only way you will know is to try it.

I use felodipine , a calcium channel blocker , with no effect on my rls.

Oh, really? I looked up blood pressure meds that aggravate RLS, and it mentioned calcium channel blockers and beta blockers right off. Hmmm. I guess it just proves that everyone is different. My pharmacy doesn't even have the spironolactone in stock. So I'm having to wait on it. I mentioned to my dr at my appt yesterday that I can't take calcium channel blockers or beta blockers due to my RLS, and he said he was actually considering putting me on a calcium channel blocker. So then he decided on the spironolactone. So I'd feel kinda bad writing him and asking him if he can switch me to a calcium channel blocker. Hopefully I'll get some more feedback in here about this to help me make the right decision. Thanks to both you and Sue so far for your input.

I was on Spironolactone for a few months last year. It caused all sorts of side effects (dizziness, rapid heart beat, exhaustion), but it didn't exacerbate the RLS.

Yikes!! What strength were you on?

Oh, sorry to have alarmed you! I was on 100 mg per day, prescribed for my hair loss. But the side effects were so bad I had to give it up (better to be bald than have a heart attack!). Since you're only taking 25 mg., I'm sure you'll be fine. : )

Isn't it interesting how this medicine is used for high blood pressure and hair loss? I don't blame you for getting off of it. Thank you for the feedback! 😊
