Here we are 2.30am and just been for a walk around the town because husband’s legs playing up so bad he cannot keep, still. Weird thing is he is now sleeping for 8 to 10 hours for 2 nights then 2 nights with no sleep. If only it would level out to every night!! Med regime is 200mg pregablin and 1mg clonazepam and at least we get some sleep now. Unfortunately he could not get on with the opioids.
Onwards we go!!!

Having been awake myself since 3AM for the last few nights I feel your pain, (although for me RLS is not the problem, it's just a combination of over active brain and waterworks). As you say, onwards- best wishes!
That is very strange. What does his doctor say? Only thing I can think of is to increase the clonazepam but I am really stumped. Another thought to discuss with your doctor is to take another benzodiazepine for 2 nights and switch back and forth. However normally when you stop clonazepam you have withdrawal symptoms if you don't wean off slowly so I don't know if this would happen if you did this. Again discuss with your doctor, Or switch to a different one entirely weaning off clonazepam slowly while gradually increasing the new one. One often used is zopiclone.
Thanks Sue. Zopiclone does not work just makes him more drowsy, might look at increasing clonazepam by 0.5. Doctor does not have a clue, we have to suggest everything to them!!
I have no explanation. Normally if meds work, you might have one night of problems, but not 2 good, 2 bad.Can you think of any triggers on the 2 bad nights? Eating late, coffee, alcohol, meds?
Such variation day to day is probably due to something he ate, like procesed food containing artificial preservative, The most likely culprits from my experience are potassium sorbate (E202) orpotassium metabisulphide (E224), they can be found in margarine, dips, pates, sauces, lemon & lime juice or even wine and beer.
These preservatives can cause severe oxidative stress on all cells of the body including the nerves. Other things which cause oxidative stress are refined carbohydrates like sugar or flour based foods or refined seed oils, so his threshold may be low because of daily consumption of these.
He may get some relief by eating food containing anti oxidants like blueberries (and to a lesser effect other berries), nuts (esp. walnuts or pecan nuts), avocados. There are lists available online.
Oxidative stress causes inflammation so anointment containing an anti inflammatory ingredient like Voltarol may help in a crisis but it's not recomended for long trm use as inflammation is part of the healing process so they should only be used for acute injuries.
I see what you mean, he eats the same food everyday so we can see if there are any triggers. Bland diet, no sugar, fresh fruit, meat, veg etc. no processed foods. Hopefully it is just the meds.
It need not be bland, I've never found chilies or spices to be a problem. Fresh fruit.should not be fleshy fruit like bananas orpeaches, stick to berries. He could go full carnivore if he likes.
