just thought I would update and let y’all know that I have an appointment with a doctor at Vanderbilt university medical in Franklin Tennessee in April. Vanderbilt is a RLS quality care center and the closest to me. I actually had one of their Doctors call me and said that if there were any cancellations that he would move me up. I have confirmed with Vanderbilt and the insurance provider and they take my insurance. And I won’t have to go alone my daughter is going with me ! I appreciate all the help and encouragement that I have received! I will post results of the red light therapy and what the Doctors at Vanderbilt say. I feel like that after all the ups and downs with this situation that I can finally see a light at the end of the tunnel!!

update Vanderbilt
That is great! So pleased for you and especially that they take your insurance.
That is where I was diagnosed 15 years ago with severe RLS and is still my primary RLS physician. They are knowledgeable, I moved and was treated with every possible drug with no success. When I moved back they insisted I try each of those meds again even though I had medical records and a bag of every bottle of med I had ever been prescribed and tried. That was a long process before finally prescribed opioids.
They did not follow the iron advice well. My iron panels were not fasting and done in the afternoon . My ferritin was 75 and yet they won't repeat the panel. Oral iron was not successful because of severe constipation and they will not prescibery IV iron treatment for me. I would love to know if that would help. I am third generation in my family with severe RLS.
They finally prescribed opioids which are successful. I live in Kentucky only 15 miles from Tennessee. They do not prescribe out of state. I tried and tried to find a Kentucky physician anywhere in the state to prescribe opioids. Finally did but he will retire soon. I'll be searching again.
I think you will get good treatment there. They will stay with you to find successful treatment. I hope you live in state. Make sure your iron test is fasting and in the morning.
Thank you for your post! My first visit is a consultation so I will have to return. I spoke with my primary care physician and he said that he was willing to work with Vanderbilt as far as prescribing the medication they recommend but opioids may be a problem I guess I will find out.
I am sure you will be pleased there! My big problem has been the Kentucky physicians! My brother is in Louisiana and gets such better and easier RLS treatment than I do in Kentucky.
I hope my primary will prescribe what I need if he don’t my daughter works at Northside Hospital and has contact with several doctors so maybe she could find someone who would.
I am also going to a doctor at Vanderbilt - Dr. Walters who specializes and does research for RLS. He has been so much better than my GP with understanding. He was right on with the blood work and putting me on Gabapetine. Thankful for this site to help me be prepared for my appointment and everything lined up with the information I learned here.
I have spoken to Dr Kim who they originally made an appointment with and she was very upfront and honest and told me that they had doctors that were better able to treat RLS than she was. She quickly contacted Dr Walter and I am in the process of getting an appointment with him. Your post about Dr Walters and Vanderbilt has encouraged me and made me feel like I was on the right track. Now my problem is the fact that Dr Walter’s is in Tennessee and I am in Georgia which causes some issues but I will fight until I find a doctor here in Georgia that is willing to work with Vanderbilt to prescribe the medication needed.
