I just wanted to give a short (!) update and get a bit of advice. I seem to be feeling worse every day and have been extremely depressed to the stage that I haven't really wanted to be here. I had a phone call today from a new G.P. who had asked for a blood test review and she said that I have " dangerously low " Folic Acid and my Ferritin level is still at 36. She then said that Ferritin should be 50 + but I thought it should be higher from what Sue and Jools have told me but also from what I have read. Does the Folic Acid also affect RLS ? She asked how I felt and I said that I feel very ill, exhausted with being up every night and very depressed. I have other symptoms which point to low Folic but I didn't realise that that's what it was till today. I gather I had this when I had cancer but had forgotten but I only got RLS 4 month's ago when I got Campylobacter. This Dr. said that because it scours your whole system that the blood test's should have been done before now. I will, hopefully , start the Folic pill's in a couple of day's. I didn't know that this could make us feel so strange and so ill. Is anybody else going through this and has it affected your creeping skin and restless arm's and leg's? Best wishes everybody.

Folic acid is synthetic - a fully oxidized, synthetic chemical compound that seems to cause all the mischief. It costs less and is more stable than the nature-made form of this nutrient.
folate is a B vitamin is water-soluble. Some people have a gene mutation affecting the MTHFR enzyme. For these people, their bodies are unable to convert folic acid to Methylfolate. Therefore, it’s critical that they not take folic acid. They should take Methylfolate instead, to bypass the need to convert the folate.
If you have the gene mutation, or a digestive condition, and you are taking folic acid, you could end up with unmetabolized folic acid and Methylfolate. They’d be competing for attention in your body, which has been linked to poor immune function, and a host of other health conditions.
On the other hand, the nature-made form or forms, called “folates,” do not seem to cause problems. This molecule is often found in foliage — dark green leafy vegetables, hence the name folate. This can enter your normal biochemical pathways and gets properly metabolized. The folic acid may not be converted or metabolized by the body, increasing cancer and disease risk. The excess folic acid becomes oxidized and promotes free radical production and genetic instability leading to cancer and other disease.
you can take the nature-made form of this nutrient — called methyl folate (and there are a few forms of that too). This is what should be in food and vitamin supplements. Many conscientious companies are now using only this form of the nutrient, but it is more expensive.

Campylobacter can cause a lot of inflammation in the body and inflamed nerves are hypersensitive leading to RLS. Another cause of inflammation is refined carbohydrate which raises your blood sugar and blood sugar is the main fuel for cancer cells so a ketogenic diet will help both conditions.
