Hi, my doctor prescribed Cimetidine for my painful bladder, I have the impression that it exacerbates restless leg syndrome. I'd like to know your opinion before taking this medication. Thanks in advance.

They usually do. Cimetidine can help interstitial cystitis as well. You could perhaps try it for a few days to see if it does worsen RLS. If so, then ask your doctor if he will consider the anti spasm bladder drugs instead. nhs.uk/medicines/tolterodine/

Or solefanecin.

Thank you, Joolsg. I am lately troubled by both interstitial cystitis (bladder pain) and RLS. Life is hard sometimes when you face so many challenges especially when you have physical pain. Now I am adding one more problem on my list. I am taking AZO (Pyridium) and Advil to alleviate the pain. Other antispasmodic drugs come also with so many side effects , some even exacerbate my RLS. Cimetidine is out of picture now, I can only depend on the analgesic to give me some sleep. I now purchased Desert Harvest Aloe vera supposedly to support bladder health so that I am giving it a try to see what happens. Thanks, Joolsg.

Definitely try high doses of waterfall D Mannose. 3000mg a day. It is used by most people I know with MS neuropathic bladder. It settles the irritation in the bladder and reduces the spasms. Cannabis really helps as well because it reduces the inflammation and spasms and can fight any bacterial infection that might trigger the pain.

Hi, Joolsg, you are so kind to give this info, I will go to get this supplement, waterfall D Mannose right away. I do have a very sensitive bladder, anything acidic will give me severe symptoms, pain and frequency and urgency. I do have Cannabis at hand, just not taking it regularly, I will start taking it regularly to alleviate this unbearable symptoms. I do appreciate to all our members for all your kindness and compassion.

I take over the counter Tagamet which has cimetidine in it from time to time and it hasn’t affected my RLS. However, I take a small dose for heartburn.

One thing I’ve observed as an RLS sufferer is that a few drugs which affect some people don’t affect me. Conversely, a couple of drugs which are considered safe for RLS give me intense RLS. For example midazolam and trazodone are drugs I will never take.

Cimetidine is a medication to stop acid production in the stomach. It's given to patients with stomach erosion, GERDS or indigestion. It's also give to hell protect the stomach if you are taking pain killers. It doesn't have any other applications.

I hope this help .

I do feel confused when my urologist prescribe it to my painful bladder. I just look up the information on Cimetidine, It does provide some pain relief to the painful bladder. But in my case unfortunately, my RLS won't allow me to touch it. Thanks for your input.

you might ask about low dose naltrexone which has been used for interstitial cystitis and has also been shown to help RLS. It usually has to be compounded and that can get pricey.

There are online compounding pharmacies that can do it, but you have to be sure they are reputable.
