I have recently contacted a legal firm to apply officially for disability due to RLS. I also have chronic pain due to degenerative disc disease in my neck, so I have two chances to be approved. I’m curious if anyone else in the US on this Forum has applied for Social Security disability?
I truly am disabled, and I’m kind of depressed to officially admit it. I can’t sit or stand or stay awake eight hours a day. As a professional writer, I can make my own hours at home as needed, but I cannot produce what I could do even a year ago.

The Washington Post recently did an article on how hard it was to get approved, how long it took and how few got approved. Google Washington Post Social Security Disability article. Pretty depressing. I wish you luck - you're going to need it.
I've been reading about disability claims too. Long covid has manifested in a handful of "acceptable" disabilities for me, but one is chronic fatigue syndrome and it's very hard to prove as a disability. However, if I understand it right, you're likely to have a better chance of approval if you claim more than one disorder.
my husband was approved for disability in US in just a few months but that was 10 years ago. He has COPD, shoulder damage, bad back and he had no vision in his left eye. He was 62 when he was approved and had very physical jobs all his life. He did not use a lawyer, we just applied on line, it was a pretty easy process. Most folks take at least couple of years for approval, it took my brother several years.
