Opioids and Paracetamol.

I have recommended using small doses of Paracetamol/Acetominophen to potentiate an opioid if it is being compromised by a trigger.

This works well. However-- I have a cautionary tale to relate.

I had a few molar tooth extractions recently and took extra paracetamol to relieve the pain. It certainly achieved that, but when I stopped taking it ,I experienced horrible withdrawals for about 4 days and nights.

And nowhere to go- I couldn't take more paracetamol, so just tapered it down over another four or five days and endured the torture.

I'm not sure what the alternives are for extra pain relief while on opioids, that don't cause more problems.

Just passing on my personal experience.

Aagh. Bummer. Maybe the old wacky backy? It's legal here now for medical reasons. How about Eire?

That sounds awful. Glad you found your way through it. I take occasional ibuprofen with opioids with no ill effects.

I'm hoping this is my current problem as well as per previous post I withdrew from the nupro patch 4/5 weeks ago with terrible withdrawal symptoms moving to gabapentin fully I had some breakthrough RSL but expected this to settle then immediately had a bad tooth infection with 2 weeks anti biotics and taking codine and paracetamol. I'm really bad with ATM with RSL in shoulders and legs but shoulders is the worst thing ever for me. I'm received excellent advice from Sue and Jools but your post gives me hope that's it's because of withdrawal from the codine/paracetamol that's the issue as I just stopped and went onto paracetamol only when absolutely needed I've now moved to low dose codine as well to wean off. Your post has given me further hope it's the opioid/ paracetamol together withdrawal that's my issue and not the RSL getting worse. Fingers crossed.
