Progress has been rather disappointing. Have been taking 2 x 300 mg at 8.00 and 9.30 pm. My sleep continues to be interrupted by RLS and I'm not really sleeping till 4.00/5.00 in the morning. I then tend to sleep for five hours which is breaks up the pattern of the day.
I have to say the RLS has not been as bad as in the past, but still enough to keep me awake. Any suggestions? Thanks.

So, just to clarify: you're taking 2x300mg=600mg at 8pm and another 600mg at 930pm? If so, that's a little closer together than the recommended 2 hour interval?
Time to up your gabapentin dose. 600 mg is a very low dose. According to the Mayo Clinic Updated Algorithm on RLS: "Most RLS patients require 1200 to 1800 mg of gabapentin You need to get a prescription for 100 mg so you can increase by that amount every 2 days until you find the dose that works for you. Meanwhile try taking 600 mg at 9:30 and 300 mg at 7:30.
I manage my RLS by taking 600 Mg of gabapentin 3 times every day at 4 pm, 6 pm, and 8 pm for a total of 1800 Mg. Sometimes I start at 4:30 pm but maintain 2-hr intervals. I sleep through the night now. Incredible!
Yes one needs to take no more than 600 mg gabapentin at one time as it is not well absorbed above that and if one needs more than 600 mg take the remainder 2 hours before and if one needs more than 1200 mg take the remainder 2 hours before than.
