pregabalin and joint pain

Hi everyone

I’ve been on 300mg of Pregabalin a day for 4 months and have developed really bad knee and hip pain. Never had this before and am wondering if this is coincidental. For context, I’m 63 and am fairly fit.

Unfortunately, pregabalin can cause arthritis.

You could go back to your prescriber looking for change in treatment.

Good luck.

What is your source for this? All I can find is that pregabalin is helpful in relieving the pain of arthritis. I did find one source that it can infrequently cause joint pain but that is not arthritis.

It is possible although it very infrequently causes joint pain. In fact it usually helps with joint pain. If you decide to come off it, or reduce it, do so very slowly to avoid withdrawal symptoms. Or you might want to try switching to gabapentin. Although they are basically the same drug except you need to divide the doses, and the side effects are basically the same, some people find that the side effects that bother them on one don't bother them on the other. Multiply the pregabalin amount by 6 to get the correct dose which would be 1800 mg in your case. Take 600 mg 1 to 2 hours before bedtime and 600 mg 4 hours before bedtime as it is not as well absorbed above 600 mg and 600 mg 6 hours before bedtime. If you take magnesium don't take it within 3 hours of the gabapentin as it reduces the absorption of the gabapentin. If you take calcium don't take it within 2 hours.
