Hamstring tendinitis?

Hi everyone I've written before about my RLS but I'm also experiencing discomfort in my hammies. I've googled ham tendinitis but it seems more applicable to active people/, athletes and since I'm not a very active person I don't think I suffer from the same thing. It's OK when I sit or lie down but as soon as get up to take a walk I feel it, though I do feel it in my buttocks when I sit down. I'm a 64 yr old male, not very active, do take a walk now and then, not regularly, and do swim quite often since my apartment is right next to the pool. I do sit for long periods either watching TV, playing guitar, or simply staring out the window. Could the hammy problem also be connected to my RLS? Any ideas out there?

This may have no connection at all with your problem, but I thought I'd mention it.

Your mention of also having discomfort in your buttocks reminds me of when I had piriformis syndrome. For me this was primarily a pain in the buttocks (literally) but it also caused pain down the back of my thigh.

Tightening of the piriformis muscle can compress the sciatic nerve causing quite sharp pains in the buttocks and leg. It can be caused by weakness in other muscles putting too much strain on the piriformis.

My problem was sorted by a bit of physio, a range of exercises, and some good walks.

Anyway, good luck with whatever is causing you pain.

Thanx Chris, and I was just thinking now that I never really drink water, honestly only when I take a tablet, that's it. I think I should start there, if not for the problem then for general health reasons. Thanx again👍

Lots of sitting and little walking really isn’t good for you and can lead to all sorts of issues as your glutes and core lose tone which then cause issues with lower back and possibly other joints such as knees. Constant sitting with legs bent can shorten your hams. On the other hand walking is an amazingly good exercise (it’s what our bodies are designed to do ) and exercises and strengthens these muscles and a good 4 mile/1hour walk every day ideally with some stairs or hills is great for muscle tone as well as having benefits for circulation and digestion. I had a spell of working from home a few years ago and after 5 years of very little walking (most days from the bed to my desk downstairs) I developed a lot of hip problems which went away as soon as I started working in the office with a 2 mile walk or bike ride every day and in a large building where you had to walk a lot to see people, find the toilet, go to the cafe etc.

I have an RLS-like movement disorder and also suffer from very sore hamstrings/legs almost 24/7/. I don’t have any answers, such as whether they are connected, but just wanted to say there’s another person suffering with the same 2 conditions

Hi Ircam Thanx for response, I visited a doctor yesterday who prescribed Oxpola/pramipexole and felt immediate relief for my RLS. Can definetly recommend. She however didn't prescribe anything for the stiffness in my hammies but advised me to see a physio to advise me on appropriate stretching excercises. She also warned me not to 'invent' my own excercises cause it could lead to serious injury. So there is hope out there. Hope this helps😊
