Pramipexole alternative.

I have just been informed by Pharmacy2U that they can’t supply my usual Pramipexole, which I have been taking for 25 years, gradually increasing dose from minimum to maximum with no problems. I therefore need an alternative. Any recommendations, please? Thanks.

Firstly--- congratulations on getting on so well with the dreaded Prami!

You will be inundated with horror posts for allowing this to happen, and suggesting all sorts of alternatives,.

Prami is a Dopamine Antagonist, so you are looking for a similar med.

The pharmacist should be able to help you.

Neupro is one, off the top of my head, it comes as a 7 day patch.

There are others, but I'm not up to speed with them .

You could check out DA meds on Google. Or I'm sure someone will come on with them.

The one question I would ask is - did you have to increase your Prami dose because it wasnt working for you ? If so, then you may need to resaerch "Augmentation" which is a whole new ball game.

Anyway, see how you go!

And , good luck.

Ropinirole is the usual alternative. The equivalent dose of ropinirole to pramipexole is 4 ropinirole to 1 pramipexole.

I am on the Neupro patch (2mg, applied at about 6pm every day). It is a dopamine agonists as is Pranipexole. I also take a Tramadol (100mg, slow release) at the same time. This has been working for several years.

I hope this helps.

Did your supplier give a reason for not being able to continue? Would that also apply to the other dopamine agonists?

My husband had this problem but it is only the one strength that was unavailable,0.52mg he has been taking 2 of these. Spent all morning on the phone had to eventually go back to GP surgery and get them to prescribe a different strength.
