Metoprolol

Can the beta blocker, Metoprolol, cause a flare up of RLS? My RLS has been well controlled for several months with Methadone. I was prescribed Metoprolol a week ago and am suddenly having problems again. Has anyone had experience with this?

Many people have reported that beta blockers worsen RLS.

You may have to try another to see if it doesn't trigger RLS. Propranolol is a possibility.

Another possibility is to ask if pregabalin would help as it is used as an anti anxiety med and can slow down heart rate.

Discuss alternatives with your doctor.

Many thanks, Joolsg. I will get started on these suggestions.

I agree with Joolsg. If Propranolol causes problems although it shouldn't, another one to try is Isosorbide Mononitrate (Monoket, Imdur)- a nitrate that treats angina and heart failure - relaxes the blood vessels and increases the supply of blood and oxygen to the heart but is not a beta blocker.
