One of my main fears with RLS is braking a leg or arm with having RLS being restricted movement how would one cope ? has anyone with bad RLS ever broken a limb and how did you cope ?

Never did it - but sure have been tempted (irrationally) to do it when things are bad! Your comment makes me think the idea all the way through. I suspect it would be MISERABLE!
I don't have restricted movement with RLS, I have severe osteo-arthritis which affects the way I move, sometimes I can't move my legs or feet at all.
But thankfully I have a bloody good Doc who helps me manage the pain, and believe me, it is painful.
The meds I take can also help with RLS.

ouch, same as me then Darcy, yes the osteo-arthritis is certainly not nice!! and i know what you mean about being a bit of a wreck!!
When I had two total knee replacements done two years apart, both times the pain was excruciating for months, day and night, although mobility was good. The physio could not understand why I was in so much pain. On reflection perhaps it was the RLS making it all so much more uncomfortable for me. After about 9 months, post op, on both occasions, the pain eased, thank goodness. As I have mentioned previously, I am blessed with not having RLS all the time. In fact, contrary to what I have read, my RLS has lessened with age. I am 61 years old now.

Thanks for the replies interesting reading from Darcy,Niah and Kaarina can't imagine what you went through but knowing the RLS can't have been much fun for any of you I had a trapped Sciatica few years back and still suffer the side affect of that ,
Braking a legs or arm always been one of my fears and just wondered if anyone had suffered such and how they handled it having seen a video of a lady in a coma with RLS and seeing although in a coma her legs were all over the place even then no rest from the condition ,

Hi Gypsy, hope your well today, my friend here just reminded me about breaking my foot twice, just as i had the plaster cast of the first time, i broke it a second time, i used to kneel on the chair with my bad leg, and wiggle the other leg about,if it was rls in the broken one, i could standup, hold the back of the chair and wiggle the bad leg about, i ended up in tears a time or two !! not at all nice !!.
Have you seen about the BBC programme,? i put my name forward for it, dont suppose i will get picked, but i would love to,its about time we got more people aware of this horrid disease i think, might get more research done then.

and so nothing to do in the night but pace the floor hmm.... ,
i've broken my ankle few year back but didn't go to hospital with it ( living out in the sticks no one to take me lol) yeah do suffer for that now tendens go tight on my big toe (thankfully joints wrong way round) they go up and over when my legs going for it painful ,
No not seen BBC programe it been on or about to? don't watch much tv let me know when it's on if you can please i'd like to watch it did read on here asking folk to put there're name forward asking folk that have partners and family's i think hmmm neither of which im in lol although think i have it bad 24/7 not slept couple nights now not even half hour hope i do tonight but seems worst when tired gggrrr round and round we goooooooooo lol
i like you truly hope more research is done to help folk with RLS not nice at all and i feel for anyone that has it know it's hard to explain to folk that don't although they try to understand ,

Oh dear! I've reached a stage where I need my knees replaced. It was only yesterday that I mentioned to my wife that I'm a bit concerned that RLS might kick in whilst I'm partially immobile. From some of the comments here I seems that I might not be in for a very good time.
opppsy... sorry to hear that hope whiles your partially immobile that your RLS doesn't play up or could be a rough ride and from what i've seen on some footage of a woman in a coma there's nothing to ease it hmm... wonder if they could sedate you lol i'd want knocking out ,

I have this right now. Freaking horrible.
I broke my ankle a month ago. I coped by taking extra Tramadol as I knew that marching about the house at night would have been impossible. Luckily it worked - a bit woozy in the morning but worth it.
I recently broke my leg and have suffered RLS my Whole life, arms and legs, I was taking opioids for pain but the symptoms still accrued it was awful my doctor prescribed a combination of Magnesium magnet and Neurontin (gabapentin) has relieved my symptoms day and night
No but i frequently punch my legs hard enough to bruise and often think of cutting to try and alleviate rls
Hi all! I’m experiencing this now too. I had my ankle broken just last Saturday, 5 days ago. And I’m experiencing rls mainly in the leg which has the plaster cast. It quicks sometimes so strong without my control that it hurts where my ankle is broken. I wonder what would be intensifying the syndrome at this point. I’ve been taking ibuprofen but nothing anormal from when I have migraines and I take them too. I don’t think they would be a stimulating factor for the rls. Wishing you all the best. Erica
