RLS between 8 and 9 pm

My RLS affects me between 8 and 9 pm most nights. I feel fortunate that it doesn’t keep me up all night. I do have lower back and hip problems that bother me when lying down and keep me up which I need to go see about.

I have neuropathy in my feet and am not diabetic. Going to a neurologist next week about that. Wondering if there is any correlation?

I was prescribed Gabapentin when I initially saw the first neurologist and wanted to wait until I saw the neurologist to which I’ve been referred.

With mild symptoms you may find that raising your ferritin level will help.Have you had it checked? Gabapentin is also prescribed for RLS so if you decide to take it for neuropathy it's likely to help your RLS.Good luck.

The reason that rls affect you at the same time every night iis that something you eat for your evening meal is just putting you over the threshold of accumulated triggers. I would guess that it's something like a swet dessert or a sweet or alcoholic drink.

There is a connection between neuropathy and RLS in as much as you are more likely to have RLS if you have neuropathy. The Wikipedia article below lists peripheral neuropathy as an associated condition in the Causes section.

Thanks for pointing me to the wiki article. I have had the RLS much longer than the onset of the neuropathy, so it probably isn’t related in this case. I am going to inquire about the ferritin level test with the neurologist next week and see what her opinion is. They tested me for B-12 and the level was very high because I was taking the supplement. I have been recently diagnosed with hammertoes, and don’t know if that is causing any of the neuropathy issues as I can’t get an answer from the podiatrist.

Improving your ferritin to 100 or more helps 60% of people with RLS and in some cases completely eliminates their symptoms. When you see your doctor ask for a full iron panel. Stop taking any iron supplements 48 hours before the test, fast after midnight and have your test in the morning when your ferritin is lowest. When you get the results, ask for your ferritin and transferrin saturation (TSAT) numbers. You want your transferrin saturation to be over 20% but less than 45%. If your transferrin saturation is OK, then if your ferritin is less than 75 take 325 mg of ferrous sulfate with 100 mg of vitamin C or some orange juice since that helps its absorption. Take it every other day preferably at night at least 1 hour before a meal or coffee and at least 2 hours after a meal or coffee since iron is absorbed better on an empty stomach. If you have problems with constipation switch to iron bisglycinate. If your ferritin is between 75 and 100 or if your transferrin saturation is below 20, you may need an iron infusion since iron isn't absorbed as well above 75. If you take magnesium take it at least 2 hours apart since it interferes with the absorption of iron. Don't take tumeric as it can interfere with the absorption of iron. It takes several months for the iron tablets or iron infusion to slowly raise your ferritin. Ask for a new blood test after 8 weeks if you have an iron infusion or after 3 months if you are taking iron tablets.

You may be low on B-12 which resolved the tingling in my legs. I use a natural, sublingual B-12, but many people prefer the synthetic.
