Hello. Has anyone with RLS had any experience with Turmeric? I started taking it for inflammation and pain from arthritis. My RLS has flared up again and it seems like too much of a coincidence. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Turmeric??: Hello. Has anyone with RLS... - Restless Legs Syn...
Turmeric??
Tumeric can interfere with the absorption of iron, so if you are taking iron to increase your ferritin, that may be why.
I took it for years- a teaspoon ful in every cup of coffee, and extensively in cooking.Never noticed any gain.
I have read that we need to take a lorry load of the curcumin to make any difference??🤔
So, now I just use it in cooking.
No, you need to take it with black pepper or your liver just flushes it out. Best way is to take both together in a capsule. It doesnt work for everyone with arthritis though.
I take capsules for my inflammation. I'm not sure if it does any good for my arthritis, there are too many variables to actually know what does what. However, i do know from my own experience that my brain is more agile when I take it! It seems to make me more alert and I don't get stuck for words quite as much. I did read once a long while ago that it's good for the brain. I've never noticed it adversely affecting my legs though.
The reason that you found relief is that inflammation is the cause of both your arthritis and your RLS, You need to both remove the causes as well as fight this inflammation. The most common cause of this systemic inflammation is high GI processed carbohydrate like bread and other wheat based products and refined sugar as well as to a lesser extent refined seed oils. Seratame is a supplement which includes turmeric as well as a number of other natural ingredients known to fight inflammation but these ingredients can't help if you're constantly feeding yourself with the inflammatory foods. If you search for 'seratame inflammation' you will find an article explaining it all. I have eliminated my RLS by avoiding processed foods and just supplementing a few of the ingredients like I eat a lot of oily fish and I have curry and rice containing about half a teaspoonful of turmeric weekly. I take daily vit K2 because it is important to regulate calcium and keep it in the bonnes and out of the cardiovascular system.
I have taken turmeric on and off for over a decade. Seems to help my joint pain. Never noticed a difference in my RLS symptoms. I take turmeric in the morning, and iron in the late evening.
As far as I know to much turmeric can make RLS worse but it might be ok with a low dose.It doesn't work unless you tak it with black pepper as your liver flushes turmeric out and doesn't absorb it, the black pepper helps with that.
So try to find out how much you should be taking that is safe fo you.
The naturist1 is correct about taking black pepper with turmeric - but it also needs fat to make it absorb. Curcumin is the therapeutic part of Tumeric and far stronger and more effective and might be worth trying. Yes I find I do need to take iron more often when I take turmeric. I make a lovely turmeric paste by blending turmeric, ginger, olive oil, lemon, rosemary, black pepper in enough water to make a creamy paste. I put this on my meals everyday. I find it a wonderful anti-inflammatory addition to my meals.
