Question? What have been some goofy or crazy things that you have done to stop your legs from moving until your meds kick in???

Sometimes, while I wait for my meds to start working, I will sit on the toilet until my legs fall asleep. I'll read a book or play on my phone and sometimes it may take a while, but it always works😊

Thanks for posting the question, but really, if I want to go down those sort of clickbait rabbit holes, I'll head to Quora. We can post pictures there that will really tear ones heartstrings.

And garner upticks or likes or whatever.

Have a nice night!🥰

Strangely, if I bake cakes, it disappears ! I don't need the cakes because the meds cause weight gain, which I hate.

Hmmmm. As I'm first to reply, do I get a first shout on testing your cakes? (I'm sure they are fine, but you never know....Hee hee)

Various kind of self concocted stretches ! Pull knees to chest and then stretch apart as far as possible ! That or standing on one leg for 1 minute intervals . When all that fails ..go for a little walk!

Oh I've done the one leg thing too, except I hold onto the table and hop on the leg!

My dear partner comes and finds me in tears and going bonkers . He makes us get dressed and we take the dog for a walk down the village… yes! At 3am😂. The distraction certainly helped for a little while. The funniest (sort of) one was 2am one morning when I was similarly going unhappily mad, we went down the garden and I hold the electric fence we have around our two chickens in their house which protects them from foxes. It hurt a bit, didn’t help the RLS but we both laughed so much that once again, the distraction helped for about half an hour 😂

Love it💕 We have to get our laughs in once in a while or we will definitely go crazy😊

It works well for me to do leg stretches (I do three: one for the calves, another for the muscles of the back of the thigh and another for the quadriceps), and also some yoga exercise such as the one called "the embryo", or other similar ones. My legs calm down and then I can go to sleep.

Having a warm mug of herbal tea helps, though I'm awake most nights due to insomnia.

At the worst I would raise my legs to almost vertical with couch cushions. I could get maybe 2 hours sleep. Mostly just did the Zombie walk.

Hot hot water on legs.

I lie on my stomach on the sofa, bend my knees and prop up my legs. Sometimes (but not always) it really helps.

Done that in the past but doesn’t work theses days.

Sooo, basically I'm the only goof that gets my legs to go to sleep by sitting on my toilet😂😂 Oh well, Whatever gets us through the night lol

• in reply toLilaclady57

Not sent my legs to sleep from sitting on the toilet but kneeled on them in bed to make them fall asleep can’t do it now got a bad knee and can’t kneel on it. By the way how do you manage to get off the toilet without falling to the floor as sleeping legs are numb have no feeling hence you can’t feel the RLS sensations. 🤔😬

When I do get up, I have to hold on to sink, but then I can walk. I usually just get in bed as fast as I can so my legs don't know I'm awake🤣

Your solution actually makes sense. Numbing the nerves like that is definitely beneficial. Clever thinking outside the box!

I will take a really hot shower and let the water run on my legs. In bed, I will wedge tennis balls in between my legs and the mattress to provide pressure points. Sometimes I will slip on compression stockings and slide the tennis balls into place in the stockings. If none of that works, I’ll press the arches of my feet hard against the foot board of my bed frame and that helps quite a lot.

I never heard about the tennis balls and I haven't tried the compression socks either, but I do push on that footboard! I always sleep on my side if whichever leg is going at the time, the pressure does help

When I went to Mayo Clinic they suggested using a stationary recumbent bike. I bought one, and it helps when nothing else has helped. Sometimes I am falling asleep while I pedal, but when I finish I feel better.

Walk barefoot on cold wet grass - seems to have a great calming effect. Have a hot shower or bath, run on the one spot until my body and legs feel exhausted, become a contortionist in bed until I find a comfortable spot - but it doesn't last long. Rub my legs with magnesium oil. All work sometimes but not at other times.
