Mini stroke query

Hi,I know this isn't the right community for this but I'm hoping someone may be able to advise me.i was sent to A and E before Christmas because I felt really faint, they did the appropriate tests but none of them showed a mini stroke, the consultant decided that the symptoms I presented with were similar so is treating me as having a mini stroke. Thing is I don't believe it was a stroke, as you sufferers are aware of the sleep deprivation and how it can make one feel, also I suffer with severe indigestion so I believe these things were the cause.how or where can I turn to get a second opinion. My cholesterol was also high at the time.

I had a suspected TIA last February that was confirmed by the OxVasc study. What were the symptoms that the consultant felt were symptomatic of a TIA - they clearly must have been more than feeling really faint?

Hi thankyou for replying. I suffer from severe indigestion, I knew that my cholesterol was high as I wasn't taking the stations.when they did all the necessary tests regarding the diagnosis he said nothing showed up but I think I may have mislead him because he was asking me lots of questions, I was scared and very nervous, the consultant said the tests showed nothing but because of my symptoms he thought it could be a TIA and prescribed the appropriate medication.even though this happened a month ago, when I rang my gp today he knew nothing about it and was not helpful at all.i need to know for sure,I'm considering ringing the hospital tomorrow, maybe they will be more helpful.

You need to change your diet and reduce carbohydrate intake. there are many things that should help you recover, have a look on the internet for Dr Berg 'What To Do After a Stroke IMPORTANT'.

Thankyou for replying. If I knew for definite was it a TIA or was it a digestive problem then I will do whatever is necessary to lead a healthy life.

Then check out the book 'The Pioppi Diet' it's quite cheap and written by an NHS consultant cardiologist.

When my father had TIAs he would stop what he was saying for about 30 seconds, and he was also not aware of it afterwards.

Hi,I hope your father is feeling better.at no time did I lose control of my faculties,I do recall I was nervous and scared so I feel now that I may not have answered the consultant correctly for example he asked if I felt weak or found it hard to lift my arms, all I felt was faint and felt like being sick.

I am 81 so my father who lived to the ripe old age of 94 is gone but did not die of a stroke. I hope you figure it out.

Oh sorry,I'm 77 and my mum live to 92 years but my Dad took a stroke and died 2years later age 72.so I really do need to know for sure.

I had some but not all of the classic symptoms of a TIA: vision impaired for a while, speech slightly garbled, problems understanding what my wife was saying...I did not notice or recall the following, but that may be because I passed out for a while: 'the face may have dropped on 1 side, the person may not be able to smile, or their mouth or eye may have dropped. The person may not be able to lift both arms and keep them raised because of weakness or numbness in 1 arm.'

A locum doctor didn't think I'd had a TIA because I couldn't report the Face and Arms symptoms, but my regular doctor did because of the Speech and vision issues - and he referred me to the specialists at the Oxford Vascular Study who confirmed the TIA after testing me.

If you had some/most of the above symptoms, it may have been a TIA - but indigestion is not indicative, and while high cholesterol can lead to a TIA if it blocks blood flow to the brain it is not otherwise necessarily an indicator
