Following on from Jason’s post about breathing I wanted to create a new post to say YES! It works for me too, I honestly couldn’t believe it but it does. I haven’t figured out the best technique but this one seems good (and also really works for getting to sleep) breathe in for 4, hold for 7 and out for 8. If this is difficult I think the point is that you breathe deeply and the exhale must be longer than the inhale. Please refer to James Nestor breathing techniques on YouTube for this one and others. Also, if I’m suffering in bed I get up and walk on the coldest floor I can for maybe a minute and that always seems to work too.

Breathing for RLS
I’m glad it worked for you. It’s good for lots of other things including anxiety so great to do anyway. I tried it a few times over the last couple of days and unfortunately it didn’t seem to help. I just ended up with the urge to breathe in on top of the urge to move!
_ hi Irish,_ Very interesting! Even though I use other non-drug techniques to manage my RLS, few times I tried the 6-3-6 secs (so-called Pranic/diaphragmatic Breathing), and, indeed, worked for me, too.
All the best and good luck
To say it works may be a bit misleading, at least for me. I do deep breathing a lot. I change it up, depending. But it is usually breathe in for 5, hold for 2 or 3 and out for 6 or longer than I breathe in.
Breathing and focus/meditation helps me cope with RLS and certainly distracts me from the symptoms.
How long did you have to do the deep breathing for it to have an effect?
