Does Azithromycin cause RLS

I was given a zpak 2weeks ago. I now have trembling in my legs and torso which is causing insomia. For the last 5 days I have only slept 2-3 hours a night. I don’t even know where to begin to get help. Any suggestions for a new sufferer?

RLS is not insomnia. RLS is an unbearable sensation in your legs ( some describe it as like insects crawling through your veins) and the only way to make the sensations stop is to walk around or move your legs constantly. Do you have RLS?Azithromycin is an anti biotic and a rare side effect is that it can cause sleep issues. It's not on the list of meds that worsen RLS.

Hopefully it will pass once you've finished the dose but mention to your GP and report the side effect.

Hello JoolsgPlease where can we find the list of meds that worsen RLS?

All antidepressants except trazodone and wellbutrin, all sedating anti histamines, most anti emetics used in surgery, cough and cold meds, statins, beta blockers and Proton Pump Inhibitors. The list below is produced by the US rls.org and shows safe alternatives.

As Joolsg has said it's an antibiotic, but antiboitics aren'tusually administered in their pure form, they are mixed with other ingredients for ease of administration like a swetener to make them more palatable or colourings. It's possible that you're reacting to those.

On two or three occasions, I have noticed a definite link between antibiotics and worsening of symptoms. It then takes a few weeks to resolve.
