Hi does anyone have any experience using this drug to help with their RLS symptoms? If so, how and when? what dose?
Dipyridamole: Hi does anyone have any... - Restless Legs Syn...
Dipyridamole
There are a couple I know who have tried it. Hopefully they'll see your post.
I was prescribed it for periodic limb movement disorder but it is not currently available in Australia so have not been able to obtain it. I'm currently pursuing another therapy so the dipyridamole quest is on gold...I believe there is a more recent paper on it (than the link provided). Let us know how you go.
I tried this drug following the study published by Dr. Garcia Borreguero a couple of years ago. I put up a thread on my experiences which you should find if you put 'dipyridamole' in the search bar.
In summary, it was not a silver bullet but it had some positive effects. The positive effects were twofold:
(i) the 'creepy crawly' sensation of RLS disappeared. Unfortunately, the urge to move and general discomfort did not so my sleep was still disturbed and the condition remained troublesome. Until trying dipyridamole I had no idea that the urge to move and the creepy crawly sensation were separate. Although it is now over a year since I discontinued dipyridamole the creepy crawly sensation has not returned to any great extent;
(ii) my general well-being and daytime cognitive function increased appreciably and in particular I felt more 'myself' than I had done for years (I had previously been on a very high dose of pramipexole and had suffered a traumatic withdrawal from this dopamine agonists a year or two prior to commencing dipyridamole).
At the same time as I was trying dipyridamole a member of the US RLS forum (at bb.rls.org) tried it also and reported similar effects.
I experienced no ill effects from the drug. My GP is a big fan of it for its blood-thinning qualities and was positively pleased when I asked for it.
I have been thinking of asking my GP for a new prescription for it because of the second effect which has definitely worn off and I'd be interested to see if it works again.
