Retiring the App

Well, that’s what they’re calling it. Anyone else had that email? It’s the easiest way to come on here for me, but they say it’s lack of use. Maybe they didn’t publicise it enough. Shame.

I've just checked my phone and all115 apps. There is no HU app, and I'm on it almost every day.

I get notified by email of any new posts in any of the forums I'm signed up to.

Maybe the app wasn't being used??

They launched the app a few years back and announced it by email I think. I’ve certainly had it a while and it’s a one touch way of getting on here instead of going through passwords etc on the internet. I get notified of new posts by email too.

Might be just on iOS

I got the email. I use the app on my phone all the time. So easy!

So do I! I hardly ever get onto HU online via the pc.

Well I have to say I have followed the email and added the Health Unlocked website to my homescreen. It was easy enough but I much prefer the layout of the app. Not sure I’ll feel as inclined to use it as much now. Maybe I just need to get used to it!

I haven’t done that yet. Just hope you don’t have to keep putting in your username and password every time you go on.

Agh! Just logged onto the website page. What a mess compared to the app! Looks like it’s just to get advertising revenue rather than make it easier for users.

I switched to an android phone a year ago & there's no HU app at all. I really missed the IoS App. It's a shame.

I din't know here was an APP, but I'm hAPPy, to be without one.

I use firefox web browser on all my devices, it saves all my passwords.

The app is a much tidier, more streamlined viewing experience. Apple devices also store passwords but for security reasons on Safari you still have to get the device to autofill them every time you go on, involving either face or fingerprint ID, which is a pain when you’re used to just opening an app. Secure but a pain. Ah well.

I use Safari for here and don’t need to put my details in

I haven’t had an email. I have an I phone. I get email notifications of daily posts. For some reason if I try to open them on my laptop it asks for user name & password which I don’t remember but if I do the same on phone I can open without. I don’t have an app as such

When did you get the email? I use the app all the time and haven't received anything thus far. Weird.

And I just looked: there is mo mention of it on the website. Well, we'll see tomorrow.

MumofSam, have you contacted HU? Or did they give an explanation in the email?

I got the email yesterday. This is what is says:

I use a laptop and Firefox. When I get my daily notification, I just click on the one I want to read and it goes right to it without having to log on. I haven't told Firefox to remember my logon, I just never log log off HU.

MumofSam profile image
MumofSam in reply to SueJohnson

Safari doesn’t let you do that for security reasons.

Not had the email. Surely it would be better to ask people whether they found it of use before deleting it ?? Or am I being too obvious ?

MumofSam profile image
MumofSam in reply to Kentish_Man

Well you’d think, wouldn’t you. I just think there’s some other motive behind it. Like I said before, could be advertising revenue. Next thing we’ll see pop up adverts everywhere like on a lot of “free” websites.

I have android and I never knew about the app either. I would've loved to have used it, but as I read these posts, it looks like it was only available for Apple users. If they're "retiring the app" because people aren't using it, it's the app people's own fault if they're not going to make the app available to android users. Had they made the app available to everyone, not just a certain group of people, maybe they would have more people using it and they wouldn't have to get rid of it.

MumofSam profile image
MumofSam in reply to LanaCSR

Well said! I hadn’t realised until now it was only on iOS and have no idea why they wouldn’t have made an android version. Even some people with iOS had no idea there was an app, so it wasn’t even being used by all those it was designed for. Too late now, sadly.
