Rls

I just want to say I’ve suffered badly with rls and insomnia for years and my sleep pattern has been horrible with very little sleep due to awful tendency to move or jerking legs at night. On an evening I tend to just slump in front of the tv and then I’m walking up and down all night trying to get some relief from my rls however two nights ago I suddenly decided to attack my garden which was like a jungle I worked strenuously all evening and went to bed at my usual time of 11pm ready for the usual thrashing up and down of my legs and spending most of the night walking the bedroom floor however I must of fallen asleep and when I woke I looked at the clock and it said 7.30 am I though the damn thing had stopped but no when I rubbed my bleary eyes it was correct!! I had slept at least 7 hours for the first time in years!! The result to my well being was unbelievable

I know it’s probably a one off but it may be useful to others sufferers and insomniac s

I'm also retired, and have never been busier!😎

How did we ever manage to find the time to go to work?

I know what you mean. I’ve converted my garage to a Greek themed bar, built a pergola alongside it ready for the grape vines and dug and cast a concrete base for the new shed. All since retiring. Plus the work seems to reduce my rls at night 🥴

in reply to Nikon-

Hmmm, not retired long then?

A few weeks?

How did you guess 😂

in reply to Nikon-

I did things like that at first. I like doing things in the garden.

It's getting a bit full now, especially after creating my own fusion reactor in the vegetable patch, building a Tesla tower by the back gate and a rocket launching pad on top of the shed.

One must keep occupied!

Can you give me the plans for the reactor 😂 I could just fit one in at the back of the pergola

in reply to Nikon-

I'd send you them via my satellite but I haven't launched it yet.

The last rocket I lanched set fire to the shed and melted the wheelie bin.

I must try to do more excercise! I’ve never really ‘got’ why it helps when it’s a brain disorder but I must try.Can you remind me whether you take any meds as well?

How extraordinary abs also just wonderful. Let us know if it happens again. My nights are as you normally describe!

Just an update on my rls and exercise I did a modest exercise yesterday and felt tired after due to heat and took a long time to get to sleep and my rls was bad in my left leg BUT on the positive side when I did get to sleep about 2am i slept well to 7.30 am

Moderate exercise and activity is known to help reduce RLS, although sounds like it might have been strenuous. Do you normally get any exercise in the day? Yesterday I didn’t do enough walking and last night was more restless as a result. It’s a fairly clear correlation for me. Glad you got some rest.

That's brilliant. More gardening for you! Am impressed you were doing it until 11pm as it's now getting dark in the UK by 9pm. Your garden, as well as your legs, will reward you. 😊

I know that exercise helps, though I have found that sometimes too much exercise can make things worse, for example doing physical work all weekend. However yesterday I walked 22km as part of a long distance walk and slept from 10:30 right through to 05:00. Had breakfast at 7am and then slept until 09:30. Bliss! Pity I cannot do this every day 😎

The exercise connection to RLS is probably a real thing. High intensity aerobic exercise will exacerbate the RLS but much lower aerobic exercise for a longer period will help. Gardening is so worthwhile on many levels! “My garden is my most beautiful masterpiece”

Well, that quote is from Claude Monet - my garden is all vegetables and well, not very photogenic. But here is a great collection from Monet's
