Currently reducing pramipexole, Gabapentin vs pramipexole

I have a bit of a dilemma on PLMS

The Pramipexole (or i'll refer to it from now "P" vs "G")

The P has had a lot of success and there is a consensus that switching to the G family may be better.

My wife used to take G for a short while, but she lost concentration, couldn't think of everyday words. She says it took her mind. I, therefore, have reservations about not only the changing, but the hard work reducing intake, to change.

Ultimately my mind says (whilst it is still working...LOL) if it works don't fix it.

Anyone else experienced PLMS and G? What comments have they felt? Thanks in anticipation.

I'm wondering why you are thinking of switching if pramipexole is working well for you.

I presently take 300mg of pregabalin. (Some people get by on a lower dose). It works very well to control my PLMD.

I've noticed that it definitely affects my cognitive functioning. What's more problematic for me is that on pregabalin, I also experience daytime fatigue (not all day, just some of the day). Unfortunately i am unable to tolerate opioids and augmented on pramipexole so don't have many options.

How you experience the side effects however really depends on the dose you take and your individual make-up.

It may be helpful to look up some of the posts on pregabalin given that it's in the same class of drug as gabapentin and people report similar side effects.

Very true Amrob. We are discouraged from P, but I am only PLMS. Hence other PLMS experiences

I also took pregabalin for a year, 150mg a day, and found the effect to be a little like being mildly intoxicated after one or two drinks, slight loss of sharpness, reduced inhibition but also that slight hesitancy when looking for words or initiating speech. While I was taking the drug it didn’t really bother me and the reduction in nerve pain and anxiety was worth it but I’m also glad I was able to come off it which is when I noticed the loss of clarity. I may have to go back on it again one day and am not unduly worried but I will also put it off as long as I can.
