Autoimmune? Fermented Foods?

I'm reading conflicting things... anyone know???

1. Are drs now believing that RLS is an autoimmune disease?

2. I'm into gut health, so have started to add sauerkraut and kimchi to my WFPB eating. Fermented foods are supposed to be great for gut; read somewhere that they are not good for those with RLS.

OK, what's WFBP? I eat kimchi every day. It can enhance glutamate over GABA promoting insomnia, but I eat it at breakfast to help gut health. I don't think anyone is categorizing RLS as auto-immune. There is a connection perhaps to gut health, absorption deficiencies, and SIBO (Small Intestine Bacterial Overgrowth).

Ha... Whole Foods Plant Based, in other words, healthy vegan... not Oreo cookies, licorice, junk food and processed foods. If you are right... and I pray you are... that RLS is not an autoimmune, then more good news bc I have been eating fermented foods for overall health gut. (Autoimmune people -- I read-- should not eat fermented foods. Sorry that I can't include a link to that. )

Hi, not sure about fermented foods but do be careful of the oxalate content in the plant based whole foods - since starting a low oxalate diet my husbands RLS has improved considerably and he is sleeping through the night. You will find other blogs on this site advising avoidance of oxalates and phosphates (found in processed meats) with great success in reducing the RLS. It does make meals a challenge but is worth it.

Thank you rchobby! Yes, I have seen posts on this. I will experiment with a lower oxalate diet and see how it affects my body.
