I visited a neurologist. At a great cost, he was of no help. Could not inform me of anything new or different to try. I mentioned my vibrator platform gave me temporary relief. He laughed. Sorry no help

I'm afraid there doesn't seem to be anything new or different available to manage RLS, just more or less the same old stuff. Thats' probably why your neurologist has nothing new. Neurologists tend to write prescriptions rather than give advice in any event.

There are some trials going on with some new possible treatments. but I believe this hasn't resulted in any new treatments that can be recommended.

One of these is the use of reptitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation and another is looking at the role of adenosine in RLS.

Otherwise the main "treatment" for RLS (i.e. that counteracts the main cause) is still iron therapy.

The usual stuff also includes -

- identifying and eliminating exacerbating factors which make RLS worse

- preventing and/or treating any inflammation which is a mediating factor in RLS

- some food supplements, chiefly vits B12 and D, magnesium and anti-oxidants.

- Medications.

The medications do not treat RLS they only give symptomatic relief.

The recommended meds include

- gabapentinoids, dopamine agonists or opioids to relieve RLS symptoms

- benzodiazepines or "Z" drugs to help with sleep

- codeine or tramadol to help with pain.

"Alternative" meds include Kratom or Cannabis.

Teres nothing at all funny about a vibrator pad, I bet it works.

Mine appointment is coming in July. I plan to discuss some of the studies being done. I am afraid the results will be the same as yours. I am sorry they couldn't help.
