Monthly prescriptions only

Hi

Just a quick question. My partner lives in Berlin and one day soon I'll be back to seeing them again! I take gabapentin and am only allowed monthly prescriptions as it's now a controlled drug. I will be away for a couple of months, hopefully, September/october and an worrying about how to get a 2 or ideally 3 month prescription. My rls is terrible if I miss even a day, so this is really worrying me. Any of you had any advice?

Talk to your prescriber and pharmacist. One to prescribe a 3 month scrip, the other to fulfill it.I used to go to NZ for 2 months, and never had a problem. ( I'm in Ireland). And that is for Hydrocodone.!

You should bring a copy of your scrip with you for customs, and keep the tablets in the chemists packaging.

I would have thought Gabapentin will not be a problem- it's not exactly a hard drug!

Good luck.

As well as taking your prescription with you also take a letter from your doctor explaining your situation and the necessity to take your essential medication on a daily basis.

Thanks for the reply and to Madlegs1. They reclassified Gabapentin, and pregablin, as a controlled drug in 2019 because of the rise in its misuse, so it does have stricter licensing. I'll try speaking to my GP about it but am worried that their hands are tied because of its status.

I'll keep you posted!

If you show your doctor proof of your plans or plane tickets etc etc they will give you the prescription to cover your time away 😉
