I found that Seroquel made my severe RLS worse. I was sure of it when the psychiatrist increased the dose and the RLS was happening throughout the day! There was another mood stabilizer that did the same, possibly Wellbutrin, but I can't remember. Too many meds for too many health issues. They tried Trazadone for the insomnia that's developed over the years of RLS, sleepless or broken sleep, nights. I ended up being one of the few that didn't get knocked out for the night. I literally feel it hit me, go to bed and sleep so sound, I'd wake thinking I'd slept 6-8 hrs...NOPE! Almost exactly AN HOUR every night! Up the dose and I'd sometimes not sleep plus they weren't giving me the increased dosage of Ropinorole the neurologist prescribed and had discontinued her script for clonazepam so the RLS was torturing me every night! It was horrid! My RLS is the constant spasms in the legs but also feels like it crawls up into the nerves in my neck and head and makes me unbelievably agitated. Swearing like a Turrets(sp?) patient and stomping around to get seconds of relief from the spasms. Needless to say I went back to the neurologist, after 2 horrible months, and was, thankfully, returned to 2 mg of Ropinorole in the morning, 2mg in the afternoon and 4mg at bedtime along with 2mg of clonazepam. The RLS still manages to break thru most days but it's likely my less than regimented schedule of taking all 12 (TWELVE!!!) of my meds. I'm a 56yo in an 80yo body! Rheumatoid arthritis (walker n cane), during chemo I had double pulmonary embolism n thyroid stopped working, so blood thinner and synthroid. Add a little bipolar 2 just for fun and you get complicated or challenging written at the top your medical charts. I do tell every single doctor/specialist, so they understand how miserable and disruptive the RLS is, that I'd go through chemo10 times if someone could get rid of the RLS. Apologies for the lengthy comment. I don't write in here as often as I'd like and I know we all try to gather as much info from other tortured souls with this awful ailment that I try to include my latest successes/failures/ailments and contraindications. Hopefully, this helps a few.

Rlstoeture, you need to start informing yourself about augmentation. That is a paradoxical worsening of the RLS symptoms due to the medicines that is supposed to suppress it. It mainly occurs with dopamine agonists: ropinirole, pramipexole and rotigotine. As you are taking twice! the maximum recommended dose, it is very likely that this is happening to you. Many RLS specialists even think the maximum dose of ropinirole for RLS should be 1mg daily, thus - go figure.

Have a look at te pinned post on the top of the (web)page of tue RLS forum of HU. Also, rls-uk.org has brief but good info on augmentation. Possibly, also the official NICE guidelines that doctors refer to for treatment may discuss augmentation and its treatment. I cannot check that nor posy a link as I am outside the UK.

Also, most antidepressants worsen RLS, although not for everyone, but for most. Trazodone and Wellbutrin should be safe, but are not the best antidepressants.

I agree with Lotte, that you read up about augmentation.

Duh, the one thing you asked that I skipped right over...antidepressants that don't seem to affect my RLS is Prestiq (Desvenlafaxine extended release 100mg), Prozac and Paxil. There are others, over the years, I'm simply not remembering them. Mine always have lithium added on for the bipolar 2. Hope that helps.

If you happen to be really sensitive to anything with the mechanism of action effecting seretonin it can be extremely difficult. Even those that should be safe like Wellbutrin and trazadone can be problematic. After trying over 20 medications my doctor's finally agreed to treat the symptoms caused by the antidepressant (aggravated RLS) with Opiods so I could find some relief from severe depression. Currently on Lamactil for depression which is helping. Wish you the best of luck.
