Mayo Clinic
Are you referring to the Mayo Clinic in the USA? This is a UK based website so you may not get many replies but the Mayo Clinic is listed as a Centre for Excellence on the RLS foundation in the USA.
I would imagine you would receive excellent care so if you are able, make an appointment.
Hi Farmboy, Mayo Clinic has an excellent reputation and a pretty good website. I think JOhn Hopkins is more readable. Is your condition hereditary? How long have you had RLS? Have you done the basics?
The basics are a morning fasted full iron panel. There is a connection between low iron and RLS, specifically a brain iron deficiency. The first step is that. He goal is to have a ferritin level of over 100 and a Transferrin Saturation Percentage above 30%. It can take many months of supplementation before benefits. After that starts the medication and medication is just a mask, not a fix.
Good luck, personally I printed out a lot of John Hopkins website and brought it to my Doctor. Things got a lot better after that.
I have applied to Johns Hopkins where they have an RLS clinic run by neuroligists who have done clinical trials and written peer-reviewed papers. I am hoping they can offer a new approach to controlling my RLS which is continuing to increase its symptoms. Yale is doing a clinical trial looking at specific hormones that may be causing the brain to emit too much signal to the nerves and muscles and causing the RLS symptoms. At this point I am more educations than most of the neurologists I've seen, which is not too reassuring.
