RlS and relationships

Has RLS caused anyone else 2 divorces and a few room mates.

Only my dogs choose hang with me. I'm either too tired or too grumpy.

And if one more person without says just sleep.

I may be imprisoned for homicide.

Just wondering if it's caused relationship issues for you all.

You just need to relax and get a good nights sleep, what's wrong with you man!!

Seriously though my wife and I often spend months sleeping apart - we choose our sofa based on it being good for me to sleep on! If I am not kicking and jumping when awake I kick her in my sleep thanks to PLMD.

She is my rock and the only person that has an inkling of how severe and debilitating RLS is. I am so grateful I have one person who knows when I say I am not just tired but tired tired just how tired I am!!! It makes it a little easier to deal with when you have someone with you who understands the suffering.

I can sympathasise with your experience. Although not actually due to RLS I've been divorced twice plus a few other relationships.

In my case it was (partly) due to Aspergers.

Apparently I used to kick my first wife and I guess that was PLMD although I didn't know it at the time. It also wasn't the cause of the marriage breakdown.

It might seem a very cold way of putting it but you could apply the concept of the "psychological contract" to relationships. This is based on Social Exchange Theory and although this theory was researched into the employer-employee relationship there are parallels with other forms of relationship.

A psychological contract is an unspoken agreement between two (or more) people about what they can expect from each other. For each person in the relationship there are costs and benefits i.e. there are things that can be gained from the relationship and things you have to do to fulfil the others' expectations.

There has to be some equity in the contract i.e. each person has to feel that the other is putting as much INTO the relationship as they are, i.e. giving as much as taking.

If for anyone, costs outweigh benefits then this can lead to a breakdown of the relationship.

It's very variable, because what peopkle perceive as a cost or a benefit is very complex and individual.

I did not get divorced, but came damn close. I flat out blame the ropinerole, mirapex, basically all DA drugs. They stole a good part of my life!

in reply toWideBody

Those drugs are horrible I 've had horrible reactions.

Only thing I will use is Kratom Cannabis and Kolonopin adding a little . I've stopped the restless legs with kratom (for now)

Still can't sleep due to my back.

So I will continue a little of this and that.

But I cannot go down the chemical highway again. It makes me suicidal.

I'd rather be tired than dead.

I totally understand. I will say, iron is my drug and I still take Gabapentin, though it is not perfect.

Hi Hidden..I Also suffer from RSL and sleep apnea. It's got to the point that my husband and I sleep in different rooms as I was making far to my noise and the RSL. It's just not fair as he needs sleep and me distributing him every night is not good for either of us.
