Brand names for topirinol
It just depends where you live. These meds tend to be called different things in different countries. It also depends if it's immediate release or extended release.
If you live in the UK, unfortunately GPs aren't allowed to prescribe a branded version, only the generic version. They will just prescribe "ropinirole", it then depends just what generic version the pharmacy stocks at the time. Furthermore, just to forewarn you, what the pharmacy stocks may vary from tme to time.
Requip the original branded version was developed and patented by the GlaxoSmithKline drug company and was the only company originally allowed to produce it. The patent ran out in May 2019, so now any company can produce it. "Generic" versions are less expensive, hence the UK restriction.
In the US the FDA discontinued the immediate release version of Requip for "business" reasons in May 2019. Presumably it will no longer.be possible to get it.
If you can find out the name then you may still be able to get a "private" prescription without paying the GP. However you would have to pay the full cost to the pharmacy. See above though, Requip may not be available.
The good news is that although the ropinirole in Adartrel is chemically identical to any other version, the other substances, called excipients, may not be. There's possibly something in Adartrel that isn't in your previous versione. Switching back may help, but it's also possible that after 6 years the ropinirole is coincidentally ceasing to work. This does happen with dopamine agonists, such as Ropinirole. Looking at the excipients for Adartrel and Requip, it seems this is likely.
Some other brand names are Requip, Repreve, and Ronirol.
Here's a list of the excipients for Adartrel
Lactose monohydrate
Microcrystalline cellulose
Croscarmellose sodium
Magnesium stearate.
Film coating:
0.25mg (white): Hypromellose, Macrogol 400, Titanium dioxide (E171), Polysorbate 80 (E433).
0.5mg (yellow): Hypromellose, Macrogol 400, Titanium dioxide (E171), iron oxide yellow (E172), iron oxide red (E172), indigo carmine aluminium lake (E132).
2.0 mg (pink): Hypromellose, Macrogol 400, Titanium dioxide (E171), iron oxide yellow (E172), iron oxide red (E172).
Excipients in Requip
Hydrous lactose,
Microcrystalline cellulose,
Croscarmellose sodium,
Magnesium stearate.
The five tablet strengths of ropinirole are distinguished by colour
The colours are produced by the same ingredients as Adartrel.
It doesn't seem that the excipients are really any different.
