Hi Kirkcaidy. Great news for you. The first time I took Pramipexole I'd say the effect was miraculous, immediate and total relief.

However, I do suggest that you read the information that came with the tablets thoroughly.

Furthermore, I wonder what your doctor told you about what dose to take. I started on 0.088 mg tablets and took one at first. The neurologist that prescribed them said I could take up to 6.

With hindsight, I think now that was very bad advice. If you continue on the Pramipexole I suggest you take no more than two 0.088 mg tablets.

I also suggest that you read up on this site about "augmentation".

I believe there is now an increasing awareness that despite it's initial immediate effectiveness, an alpha 2 ligand might be better in the longer term than a dopamine agonist like Pramipexole.

It's a shame that despite the legal requirement for doctors to have your "informed consent" to undergo any treatment, (at least in the UK and probably other countries too) the neurologist who prescribed Pramipexole for me did NOT do that.

Particularly he did not inform me. "Informed" means that you are told all the facts about the benefits of the treatment, but also the risks and the alternatives. You should then be allowed a choice.

If your doctor did not inform you about the risks of Pramipexole and the alternative treatments, it would be a good idea for you to inform yourself.

You might find this article a good start.

From my personal experience of Pramipexole, I would not recommend it.

Well put - I second everything Manerva has said. For me too it was a miracle drug until augmentation set in. Please educate yourself as much as possible on this subject.

In the meantime keep the dose very low, do not be tempted to increase, particularly if symptoms seem to worsen and watch out for side effects. Let’s hope you get many problem free years.

An Excellent article, I have suffered from RLS for around 10 years and over that time have increased the dose of .088 Pramipexole from 1 to 3 tabs a night. This, I have read from many previous postings is the max amount to take before adverse and opposite effects occur. So far, so good, but I know that sooner or later augmentation will set in, and having suffered 1 night when I forgot to take my tabs, I am absolutely dreading it.

So, I have started to grow marijuana plants and will extract the oil once they flower. I have no certainty that it will replace the Pramipexole once augmentation sets in, but it it is worth the try.

Very sensible. Thanks to the direction of neurologists, up until last year, (and because of ignorance), I was taking 3 X 0.18 mg.

I gave experienced both augmentation and forgetting to take the Prami.

You are less likely to get Aug if you stick to the lower dose.

Good to have a contingency plan!

Speaking of which: has any body on this site used marijuana oil to prevent RLS?
