Need to know if it’s ok from someone who has taken it personally

I’m taking 60 mg of Methadone daily unfortunately, but I continue to have restless legs at night (mostly) I bought a little package of Kratom unicorn capsules , kinda scared to take but I really want to try ! Is it safe? And is there any weird side effects? I don’t mind sleeping , cause I don’t get much of that!! I was prescribed cymbalta, but I read horrible stuff about that , it ain’t worth it! Please help if you know?

I would be very wary about taking Kratom with methadone

americanaddictioncenters.or...

You are clearly in USA ( this is a UK website) as methadone is not prescribed here for RLS.

60mg should definitely help RLS so you should look at other meds that may be worsening your RLS.

You mention cymbalta. Like most other anti depressants, cymbalta worsens RLS. Trazodone and Wellbutrin are safe alternatives.

I know recent posters have mentioned tweaking the timing of their methadone to achieve relief.

Try emailing Dr Buchfuhrer ( he is based in California) on somno@verizon.net

He will answer ( but make sure your spelling and grammar is correct as he doesn’t respond otherwise) within days and may help you adjust timing and dose to ensure relief.

Also check your serum ferritin levels ( you’ll need a blood test) & ensure it’s above 100.

Just FYI, you CAN be prescribed Methadone for RLS in the US

I know. This is a UK website and sadly, we cannot get methadone here. We are aware that our members over there in the USA can get methadone if they find a knowledgeable doctor.

Ive recently started using Kratom . Im in the UK and got to see if it helps my RLS. Difficult to tell if its working but I suspect it is as Im getting a much better quality of sleep.

Paul, that would be great. Will you let us know whether it really works? And hoe much you take and what strain/type? I view kratom as my next go-to option.

Im not an expert . I saw a useful video from someone from youtube. I ordered a few strains but have only tried one so far. My symptons are about 70% better but I cant be sure whether its 100% the Kraton . The stuff I ordered is in a powdered form and I take a table spoon in water before I sleep. Like I said you dont feel any instant effect but Im waking up feeling much better ( meaning i must be getting more sleep)

I take kratom for my restless legs. It's not as effective now as when I first started it and at present I only use it as a back up for other treatments. It may be that my supply is a bit stale as I ordered too much at one stage and am having difficulty getting through it. It produces a mild euphoria which is about equivalent to that produced by a strong cup of coffee - but without the jitters that coffee can cause. It doesn't tend to affect my balance unduly or cause lethargy or inertia, hallucinations or anything like that. I have to say I like the effects. Because it is not regulated as a food stuff it is not possible to say hand on heart that it is safe to take - any unregulated substance inevitably carries a risk. However, the recently published statistics in the US concerning opioid induced deaths showed only a tiny percentage of deaths linked to kratom intake solely (I worked it out to be 0.0026%) and this is for recreational users who will likely be taking it in much greater quantities than are required to regulate RLS symptoms. On the plus side, it is relatively easy to discontinue - much less dependency inducing that opioids such as oxycontin and for me the side effects were much less significant than those I experienced on oxycontin or pregabalin. And it was MUCH easier to discontinue.

I have used it in conjunction with oxycontin occasionally but only when I was taking a relatively low dose of oxycontin. I would echo Joolsg's anxiety about taking it in conjunction with another opioid although my understanding is that it operates on slightly different receptors (however I am not a scientist and could not vouch for this). I have not tried methadone for my RLS (or at all) but from what I've read, it's usually pretty effective for RLS symptoms so if it's not working, you might not find kratom sufficiently strong.

Dr. B prescribed me methadone, but at A MUCH LOWER DOSE than you are taking. My dosage is 5 mg twice a day. It is working superbly for me. I am also supplementing that with kratom powder as needed, a few grams per day, but I am quite used to it, as I have been taking it for years, before I was able to get the methadone prescribed. I've never had the slightest problem with kratom and would be crestfallen if it were to be outlawed.

If you are currently taking 60 mg of methadone per day, you should email Dr. B as he is the expert regarding the use of methadone for RLS, and he may want to ask you more about how your dose got to be so high. I don't think that adding a bit of kratom would affect you very much, but you are a prime candidate to receive the kind of knowledge that Dr. B possesses.

I wouldn’t take kratom with methadone either. I would worry about seratonin syndrome. U have to be careful with combining drugs that alter serotonin levels.

Seritonin call also affect RLS.

Yes I take kratom and took it initially to get off methadone and that’s when I ended up with restless legs. Do you drink coffee or take antihistamines? That will agrivate it as will some other drugs so ck into that. As for kratom it is safe if you get it from a good dealer like kratom crazy.com or happy hippo in Idaho. Know it’s not legal in all states. Go to the kratom assoc. and read there and try the Reddit kratom threads they are great. You need to order the red vein Borneo or red vein Bali for night time. Start with one teaspoon and if that won’t work try 2. I put it in capsules but they take an hour to work on me and you need to take it on an empty stomach or almost empty, like a little yogurt shouldn’t hurt. You may get a bit nauseous the first time if so it goes away fast but take a lower dose next time or eat something like yogurt first if it bothers you. Most people need 2 teaspoons (NOT tablespoons!) but everyone is different so start slow. You can make it into a tea and drink it but yuk lol some do though.

And YES it is safe! You can not do on it. The worst thing that can happen is puking. Although it’s fine to mix it with most drugs there are a few that it can interact with. I forget what ones but if you go to the Reddit kratom boards you can find the info there or ask someone there.

I took it as I said to get off methadone so I’m not sure if it will work when you are taking methadone since they give it to get off other drugs I think it blocks you from the effects? I did take it though when I took methadone and didn’t see any effects. I did once I was off it. FYI, it works 100% better on my pain than methadone ever did and it stops my rls. I went thru hell for almost 3 months before I discover it works for both of those things and here I had 2 bags of it I bought for detoxing off methadone. That was last October and I still take it every day. Can’t sleep without it because of the rls. Oh and going off methadone or other pain meds can GIVE you rls. I’m hoping mine is from that and will go away so,edgy. It is better than it was so there is still hope. Before you try kratom read about it and ask questions to people who know like on Reddit and other sites. I didn’t use it u til I felt comfortable I knew what I was doing. There’s lots of good info out there and lots of bad info. It will not kill you, the place you buy from should have info on the tests they do before they sell it so you don’t get sick from contamination. There are a lot of great places to buy from. It buying in as a passer is a lot cheaper than in caps. You will pay a lot more for it capped. Never buy it in like a head shop or store, they will charge you a ton more and it may not be safe since you can’t know where it came from. The places you buy from In;I enjoy are the ones who imported it.

Go read the kratom ass. Page for more info and for the latest testing on it and for the states it legal in. Feel free to ask me any questions you. I gut have too. Good luck. I’d get off the methadone if I were you. I’m so glad now I did even if it was forced after 18 years. I feel normal again. 9 oh there’s also a white vein for daytime that will give you energy and not jittery kind like coffee, ore like you just have more energy and a good mood. I mix the white and red during the day and take half and half, as the white isn’t as strong for pain but it does have some pain killing quantities, oh and I read it works better than morphine without the high. Good luck.
