Me too
I found a post on this site from 2014 in which someone posted that their cousin had developed RLS on metformin.
It isn’t listed as a common side effect but if you have only had RLS since taking it, then it would appear you also have RLS as a rare side effect.
If you didn’t have RLS before taking it then it is very possible that the drug is to blame.
It’s a case of which is worse- the RLS or the symptoms of PCOS.
You could always ask your GP if there are other treatment options- and try stopping the metformin for a few weeks and see whether the RLS disappears.
I was on Metformin for a while for PCOS years ago as well. And now that you mention it, that may be when my RLS symptoms started getting worse. (although I definitely had occasional RLS symptoms before that) I believe Metformin is used to help maintain and regulate blood sugar. Which brings me back to my current line of thinking that my RLS has something to do with the gut health/food/nutrition. Mainly, that a sustained high sugar and carbs diet cause blood sugar spikes and increased production of insulin in the body. Which in turn, cause widespread cellular inflammation leading to all kinds of diseases, including neurological symptoms like RLS.
Not really sure how or if they all tie together, but its food for thought.
