Hello everyone I want to share my experience with you. I am 54 years old, I have suffered with RLS for the past 10 years, I haven’t wanted to take medication so I have lived with this debilitating condition. I attended the RLS conference and soon realised that however bad mine is there are people sharing this condition who are far worse. For me it happens in the evening, I am unable to relax and watch TV after about 8pm, as soon as my body starts to unwind, my legs start jumping and that’s every night for the past 10 years.
I’ve waited a few weeks to share this because I don’t want to get your hopes up.
Six weeks ago my daughter said she had started following a doctor on Instagram called medical medium and he swears by celery juicing to heal the body from the inside (as well as many other things), he says it heals chronic conditions. Juice a whole bunch of celery in the morning on an empty stomach and don’t eat for 15 mins.
So I thought I’d give it a go, not really thinking of my RLS but general well being.
What can I say.... my legs haven’t jumped for the last 5 weeks.
I’m ecstatic but I don’t want to fully get your hopes up, I keep questioning, could it be hormonal changes (I’m at that stage in my life), the truth is I don’t know, but what I do know is since I’ve been celery juicing, my RLS has stopped, for how long, I don’t know, but I really wanted to share this with you, because it’s got to be worth a try.
Good luck everyone xx

Hello lisak , I'm interested in your experience with celery, but very skeptical . So I Googled it. The nutrition of celery......Wow was I ever surprised. There is a lot to celery, who knew? I'll only list a few ...excellent source of vitamin K and molybdenum / folate potassium/ manganese and pantothen acid . There's more... vit. B / copper/ vit C, B6. It goes on, so I can see that you are on to something. I am going to investigate it, but really what do we have to lose. It says to eat the leaves they have more stuff in them. Back to google I go. Thank you. Pam
Much easier to get all the vitamins and minerals through juicing rather than eating. It would take hours of eating celery to get an equivalent amount that you could easily drink in a glass - hence, the popularity of juicing.
From the information I read on google it doesn't matter how you ingest the celery . They have recipes for smoothies ,salads , infusions and 3 to 4 stalks will do. Celery extract is recommended as is celery seed and celery salt.If it gives you gas they recommend cooking it slightly. I think it probably will be different for everyone and some experimenting will need to take place . I am wondering why pill form wouldn't work just as well.It could be a lot of pills to take, but the juice is pretty hard to take Not that I won't do it The information I've shared is from a Doctor. I wanted to know lisak how long you took it before you noticed a difference, Thank you, Pam
That’s a coincidence. My daughter also bought the Medical Medium book and has been juicing celery for the last 2 months.
She keeps telling me I should do it as well but I am a sceptic and when I read the ‘blurb’ on the book, became even more sceptical as he isn’t a doctor or nutritionist but has dreams to tell him how to heal people. As a devout atheist I have problems with these sort of people and their claims.
However, I absolutely believe that food/ minerals/ vitamins can really help people with RLS so I will try it.
I’ve tried paleo/Fodmaps and vegan diets for long periods of time and they haven’t made any discernible difference but who knows, it may help and we all react differently to different meds and diets.
It’ll be interesting to see if anyone else achieves good results.
I'm very much on the same page as you about being skeptical about the reasoning. So, I would immensely appreciate if you would update on your experience with the celery in a few weeks! I'd love to hear someone who is as scientifically inclined as myself give his opinion!
I didn’t do the celery juice- my daughter did. She used a whole pack of celery ( about 10 sticks) & she has a juicer which turns the sticks into one large wine glass of juice. I think you have to use juice. Eating is not supposed to be as good.
I've been having celery juice on an empty stomach (but between breakfast and lunch) and probably not enough. I'm yet to notice a difference, but I'm going to try to start drinking it first thing and also increase to 16 oz.
I saw that world no 1 tennis player Novak Djokovic was drinking celery juice each morning and Stallone too!
I've been researching juicers and juice bars. Buying juice is so expensive! But the sheer number and type of juicers on the market is overwhelming! I've read that an "augur" type (aka "masticating" type) juicer is the best. Any input on this, lisak160764? Or anyone else? Thanks!
I went into the which magazine and this one had the best write up, it’s £64.99 on amazon, easy to use and easy to clean -Philips HR1832/01 Viva Collection Compact Juicer, 1.5 Litre, 500 Watt - good luck with the juicing.
The probable reason that you see results is because it's low carb and because you're drinking that you've got less need for high carb foods to satisfy your hunger, or you're replacing a high carb fruit juice. I hate celery but have been on a low carb diet for 12 months, and I've had very few, and those being mild, attacks of rls since I started.
I'm also sensitive to potassium sorbate (E202) so it could be something else. It was the fact that celery is notoriously low carb, but is not noted for other qualities that suggested it.
That is not the case for me. I am an extremely healthy eater and have forever taken a low carb diet. I do not eat sugary foods or drinks, natural or otherwise. I had RLS attacks every night for 10 years and have not had one since a week after starting the celery juice.
Hi Lisa that's really encouraging to hear i have just began with celery myself, not the nicest tasting drink, however I will persevere hopefully getting the same results as you..good luck
I am putting the celery in a blender with a small cup of water and then pressing through a wire sieve. I also add some pepper and celery salt. Not going to pay out for a juicer unless I see some benefits from drinking it.
After reading your experiences, my wife made me celery soup (not got a juicer at the moment). Used celery 300g, potato 200g, stock cube, fried onion, all boiled up and then blended for 4 servings. It coincided with my longstanding RLS disappearing. Am on a caravan holiday for a month without the facilities for making more and am up each night with RLS so looking forward to restarting when we get home. Will post results.
I am on 100mg Tramadol plus 1200mg Gabapentin which gave an RLS free night when all was well. Now I am up for half an hour up to 3 times a night.
I stopped juicing for about 6 weeks because I wanted to see if my RLS would creep back, which it did. I’m back on it now and feeling much better with no RLS.
Hello Lisa - just came across your post and the subsequent thread and I would be really interested to hear from you regarding your experience with celery juice since your original post. Thanks
I know this is an old post, but is the celery juice still working for you? Also, do you know if celery juice is sold or if celery powder will work or if you have to have a juicer and do it yourself?
