Just got an appointment with Dr. Mark Buchfuhrer at the suggestion of a few of you. His office is 11 hours from where we live but we are at that point -- and can't wait to consult with him! Thank you so much to those of you who suggested him and the rlshelp.org site. Will look forward to sharing with you all after the appointment.

Can’t wait to hear how it goes. He is a superstar to me - dispensing excellent advice within hours to those of us who have emailed him and totally free- something I wouldn’t expect from a country like the USA where free healthcare doesn’t exist.

No kidding! Maybe since we actually have an appointment set up with him, he would not mind an email about getting of the Rop. I know I have to be careful with spelling, etc. and will be! Where would I find his email? I did not see it on the rlshelp.org site. Maybe I just missed it.

It's on the opening page- a tiny yellow box. That gets through to him.

How do you do that!?🤔

Do what? Now I'm confused. Are you referring to the 2 replies? if so, my laptop had a senior moment( it takes after me) & told me my reply had not been sent so I hit send again.

Hope it's pleasant in the Emerald Isle. I'll be visiting soon to use my Irish passport for the first time. Hoping to take kids to visit their "long lost family' in Newport, Mayo.

Yes-- it was the "double irish" got me!

Newport will be lovely- make sure you get the Real Fish and Chips, beside the garage.

And there is a quaint but authentic Indian Restaurant, posing as a pub. Best Samosas I've ever had.

Cycling the Greenway- Mulraney to Achill is hard on the bum but great views. You can get lifted back if return is too challenging.

Enjoy. 😎

My da's cousins own the garage! I will definitely try the real Fish and chips. I'll report back when tried them.

I have just joined this group and was just reading and came across this post. I live in the uk and my father came from Achill where I visit most years. I have been in a lovely cafe in Newport but have not tried the fish and chip shop. I have had RLS for about 30 years steadily getting worse. The last two years have become unbearable, up most of the night walking or finding something to do as everytime you lay down it's there. Doctor has put me on Ropinirole this week, first four nights were much better but last two were not. Think I will up it tonight and hope it is not the start of a slippery slope.

What were you on before this latest Ropinerol? If it was another Dopamine agonist such as Mirapex(pramipexol)- then do NOT up the dose.

Please check out Augmentation, and follow the advice.

Google" Mark Buchfuhrer , augmentation management" and read n print for your doctor.

Slan.

I have not had any treatment before. The doctor has put me on 0.25mg but given me enough to up it to 0.50mg if needed until I see him again in a month. The drug company literature said to take 1 tablet for the first 2 days then 2 tablets for the next 5.

Not too acquainted with Rop, but I gather you can go up to 3mg per day. Hopefully you will get relief fr some level.

If 3 doesn't do it, then it may mot be rls.

Good luck.

Thank you Madlegs1 I hope it helps and in the meantime there seems to be plenty of information and help to read on here. I hope one day I can do normal things again like going to the cinema with my husband for instance.

You will be in safe hands, he is the best. :)

I was lucky enough to have a friend who drove me hundreds of miles to be examined by the good Dr B. It was the single most important thing I've ever done in my RLS treatment.

Well that is very encouraging! Just finished making our flight and hotel plans for the appointment. Very hopeful. Thank you!

Hey there! I saw that you traveled far to get an appointment with Dr B. I am on the other end of the country from him being in South Carolina at the coast, and to travel to him in California would take me hours of a plane ride. So I was wondering since you went such a long way to go see him, is he treating you remotely after the first appointment? In other words, how are you continuing your appointments with him, or are you traveling back to him each time? I am getting to the point to where I feel like I need to see him because none of the doctors in my area or even close to me are able to help me with my RLS. But I don't know how it works if I'm so far away from him. So I hope you don't mind me picking your brain to find out how you are managing to get treated by him so far away. Thank you!

Hi, Lana,

I've been under Dr B's care since Sept of '18, so it's only been 5 months. From what I understand, there would only be a requirement to see him once every six months, and perhaps then, only if you were prescribed an opiate and there was a requirement to give a urine sample every so often. I haven't had to return yet. He will open up a "portal" for your case, i.e. an internet page whereby you correspond with him and his office personnel regarding your treatment. One time he even called me on the phone personally.

My first contact with Dr B was when I visited the website at rlshelp.org/

On the lower left side of the opening page you will see a little email icon which, when clicked on, opens an email page where you can describe your situation. It's hard to believe, but he personally responds to your email, usually in a day or two. The site is called "Southern California RLS Support Group".

Best of luck--a lot of people you don't even know love you!
