Mirapex to gabapentin. A few weeks since I wrote. I have now reduced to mirapexine and I am up to 400mg of gabapentin and still on 026 mirapex. As expected I am up all night pacing the floor not getting any sleep. I am hoping to visit the doctor tomorrow forvsomethingvto help me get some sleep. Can anyone recommend something to take at night so I can pass it on to the doctor in case she dosnt know what to give. I dont see the neurologist for a couple of months. Thanks to all you helpful people out there .

Imovane is a good one for sleep, although it can be highly addictive.

Ambien is unfortunately a popular one to prescribe. I explain my «unfortunately» below:

Ambien can carry a devasting side effect of doing things you have no memory of doing. This can come with the first dose. I took Ambien a total of 3 times (non-consecutively) and my husband had to fill me in on what I did after all 3 times!

Thank you Jess for your reply. I haven't slept since Tuesday and I am shattered. I saw my GP this morning and she is going to get in touch with the neurologist to bring my appointment forward. She has given me zopiclone to help me sleep short term fingers crossed they will work.

You’re welcome!

Oh, I’m so sorry! Yes, I’ll have my fingers and toes crossed that it works.

Hi, your post attracted my attention because I am dealing with practically the same thing. I was on .5 Mg of Mirapex for only about six months but when I started to try to ween off of it (due to ED side effects) my life became HORRIBLE. Deep depression, restlessness moving to my arms and chest, rls events occurring at all times of the day but three times worse at night. This, I came to find out (with no help from my doctors) is DAWS. Dopamine Argonast Withdawl, Syndrome.

I had cut my Mirapex to .25 mg. It took over a week to stabilize but eventually most of the horribleness went away. Then I cut my dose to .125. Mind you this is just a speck of a pill but all the horribleness returned! I can’t imagine what I would be enduring if I had been on a 2 mg or 4 mg dose like many of the people on this chat room.

As I was suffering I started reading much more and began to add some things that are mostly supplemental...not drugs. For the last night and the night before I slept very well. This is what I have been taking.

In the morning I take 500mg GABA. Not gabapentin. GABA. It’s a supplement. In the early evening, with dinner, I take, 400mg of gabapentin, another 500mg of GABA, my .125 of Mirapex and 300mg of potassium chelate. Like I said, sweet, wonderful, sleep.

In a week or so I will drop the last of the Mirapex and see what happens. This Mirapex is powerful stuff and my sleep doc gave me NO indication that it might be difficult to stop taking it or that augmentation might occur. Not responsible in my opinion. My family doc had never heard of DAWS so I sent her a bunch of information about it. She is now going to refer me to a neurological movement specialist in Seattle.

God bless you on your journey. I have found much information and solace on this site.
