You will need to wean off the Mirapex VERY slowly.

Gaba takes a while, maybe up to 3 weeks, to kick in, so stsrt it while weaning off the Mira.

It will not help in the withdrawal,- for that, depending on your Mira dose , and how long you've been on it, you may need some strong painkillers such as Tramadol or Codeine.

You will fing strategies on this site, and also on

rlshelp.org

Good luck.

Loads of people have gone through withdrawal from Mirapex on here and their doctors have given them Gabapentin to take during this time.

Sadly, most doctors don’t realise the Gabapentin will not help at all during withdrawal.

Ypu need an opioid and possibly cannabis during the withdrawal.

As Madlegs says, it’ll take weeks, possibly months before the Gabapentin becomes effective.

Some people find relief pretty quickly, for others it can take months to find the right combination of meds.

Spend a few hours reading through the posts on Augmentation and withdrawal and you’ll learn a lot. Elisse recently posted an excellent podcast of Dr Buchfuhrer talking about Augmentation.

I was on mirapix for a year and got awful side effects . I’m not the brightest and didn’t realize it was the drug . I fell often and was foggy brained and got the over active side effects. It was awful. Anyway one night I forgot to take it and woke up feeling the fog was gone . I never took it again but I did have an awful time for months after . I didn’t know you had to wean of it .

After a year of 1.5mg ropinirole, my doctor stopped ropinirole and put me on 300mg gabapentin three times a day. It’s working quite well but have only been on Gabapentin 4 weeks.

If you are experiencing any form of augmentation get off Mirapex asap and do so slowly. You will need to follow this up with low dose opioid therapy, oxycodone.

I just stopped as it was such awful medication.I may not have been on it long enough to have a problem other than weight gain during the time I took it.plus it did not help RLS.Retren.

The gabapentin also caused me hair loss. Look it up. It is an issue for some.
