Weaning off DA side effects

Does anyone know if weaning off pramipexole can cause anxiety and depression? I have been off pramipexole for a few weeks but am still struggling with depression and anxiety. I have just started Wellbutrin but am only on 2nd day so don’t know if it will help. I can hardly eat and am near tears all the time.

I would say indirectly yes, it can. Weaning off Pramipexole = very little to no sleep = feeling depressed and anxious.

What are you taking in place of the Pramipexole?

That’s an excellent question. Right now I have some hydrocodone to last until my appointment next week at a sleep clinic. I have increased water intake and take magnesium. I had 3 ok nights then last night I woke with pain in my right leg. I put on a compression sock and got through the night. But still fighting depression.

so sorry, but didn't see this till now.

I'm glad you had some okay nights last week; at least that's something. It sounds like you had some luck with the stockings as well, so that's great!

I'm really glad that you're going to see a sleep specialist. If comfortable, please let us know how it goes.

I'm so sorry that you're still fighting the depression. Depression is awful in and of itself, never mind having RLS as well! It is a balancing act that is no fun! My doctors for both conditions are very thorough because they communicate with each other in regards to medications, but when it comes to changing medication dosages and I have to decide what's better (to decrease an antidepressant so that my RLS symptoms will improve, and at the same time being prepared that my mental state might suffer), is not easy. It's easy when my RLS is bad because then I couldn't care less if my mental state worsens, I just want my RLS to improve! But then there's always that other side where my RLS is bearable, but my mental state has taken a hit. That side doesn't feel good either. Very maddening, isn't it?

If you mean trying pramipexole I’d suggest strongly that you don’t take ANY dopamine agonist. They are not good drugs, though still prescribed by many physicians as first line treatment for RLS.

That is the big question on this forum. I’m hoping to be able to try low dose opioids. Have you tried compression stockings? And daily intake of magnesium? Lots of water. I have appointment next week with a sleep doctor.

I tried all those things you mentioned even hot and then cold freeze, Magnesium spray oh the list is endless and nothing helped me after Pramiprozole made the condition worse for me only Ampitripyline 50mg twice werkly it doesn't even break through i was tempted to see how long i could go without taking the 2nd one but i dont want to upset the applecart, leave well enough alone i say. Its to big a risk to take.

I agree with Yakester DON'T go on Pramiprozole save yourself from going crazy altogether as i know RLS is enough to make anyone go nuts.

Oh beware of antidepressants - withdrawal and/or discontinuation syndrome can be very challenging. Natural alternatives for depression and anxiety do exist - high quality B vitamins (B-Right by Jarrow), Fish Oil, and aerobic exercise are good first steps. I know everyone wants a quick fix - just give me the pill to fix this. Hello

I had to wean off Pramiprozole a few months ago it never gave me anxiety but being on it did cause Augumentation so was really hard to cut down although many here will say Ampitripyline makes RLS worse or doesnt help i have found it came to my rescue it helped me get of the Pramiprozole and i now only need to take 50mg twice weekly i honestly dont have RLS God willing at present and long my Ampitripyline keep working for me.

If you discuss it with your doctor and can take it or allowed it its worth a try i tried many many remedies to my disappointment none helped the Pramiprozole helped at start but i had to increase up every few weeks till on highest dose my doc told me to go back down to 2 but i cud'nt RLS was worse and i didn't dare reduce. Doc gave me 2 weeks supply of sleeping tabs to help me reduce didn't help at all then gave me Diazipam a few weeks supply but again useless not until i got Ampitripyline did i get peace right away and have done ever since which is approx a month now long may it last God willing. I hope this helps you and you too find a med that'll give you rest from RLS.

It just shows on this forum where everyone only try’s to help , it makes you scared to take a tab because someone says they give you trouble , who would have thought we would hear that Amatripyline was doing good for someone hip hip ,
