My father has rls and currently uses Rotigotine Transdermal Patch. He has used other oral medications with the same active ingredient. It is causing him to have OCD. Quality of life is poor. He is a shell of the person he used to be. Please, anyone that has had this experience please share are there alternative forms of treatment? I strongly feel this medication is causing more harm than good. Any advice appreciated.

Restless legs, medication, OCD
Hi. I use the patch.
Some questions for you:
Is it the patch that is causing his OCD-like behaviors?
What behaviors is he exhibiting? Are they mental behaviors ( ruminating thoughts in the mind, thinking too much, trouble letting go of things, etc) or physical?
Obsessive-compulsive behaviours are a well-known side-effect of DAs, and should be an alert to the doctor to change the medication as soon as possible.
He must see his doctor, or find a new doctor, who will wean him off rotigotine and on to a new protocol.
If the doctor does not do this, the almost-inevitable augmentation will occur, he will need a stronger patch, and the OC behaviours will get worse. No no no. Red flag!
I understand this, and it is hell. No one should take this lightly, but laughter is often the response you get when you say that certain behaviours are new, and uncontrollable.
