Possible non-drug RLS Treatment...

Hi,

I haven't been on this post for awhile because I have been working like crazy. However, I see posts from time to time and I am wondering why patients with Primary RLS do not get monthly blood transfusions from patients with Hemochromatosis? They appear to be almost polar opposite conditions. Hemochromatosis patients have to donate blood routinely to lower their iron levels. Furthermore, transfusions are common, can be done monthly and cost around 200 dollars a month.

Any thoughts?

THAT is not the way it is done, and it cannot be done that way. We have to get IRON INFUSIONS, if needed, but never a TRANSFUSION. We have enough red blood cells, so we do not need someone else's. Hemachromatosis is too many red blood cells. I don't know how to explain it, but this would not work. Interesting thought, but no.

Thanks for the reply! Actually people with Hemochromatosis do not create more than the normal number of red blood cells. They just absorb more iron than normal. Just wondering if anyone has tried this.

I had ferritin levels of 1400 and have got it down to 250 now after a year of phlebotomy. My rls was never affected by either level. DrB says it doesn't always work that way.?????

Studies show rls sufferers tend to have very low iron levels and benefit from getting to extra high healthy iron range .
