Gabapentin
Misty, it is no use starting gabapentin when you have augmented on a dopamine agonist, such as ropinirole in your case. And from your previous post it seems very very likely that you have augmented. You really have to reduce your dose of ropinirole first, slowly, very slowly. And tramadol or - as it didn’t seem to help you - a stronger painkiller like oxycontin may help to get you trough. Please read Joolsg reaction to your previous post.
And when you have come off the ropinirole, start slowly on gabapentin. Many start on 300mg, but it may be wise to start with 100mg and titrate up slowly. I.e. at most once a week. I found that some leftover effects of ropinirole lasted for months.
Unfortunately, it will take time, and it will not be a nice time either. Sorry, I can’t be more positive.
900 would be considered max for rls. But always start low and just use whatever works , rather than overdosing.
I gather you are on other medications- so your question is dependent on what else is going on.
Good luck.
I’m on 800mg at 2.00pm and 800mg at 10.00pm and am usually up 3 times a night for 30 minutes. If I’m desperate for a night’s sleep I add 50mg Tramadol at around 8.00pm and can sleep thro’ if I behave and avoid all my triggers. I’m having a break from Tramadol and would like to be regularly on 50mg Tramadol plus a reduced Gabapentin. Max dose Gaba was 2700 but my GP says it is 3600 (for Parkinson’s). I don’t have many side effects but I have increased appetite which has helped me.
My doc said 300 mg after dinner and 300 at bedtime. I found if I get plenty off exercise and eat healthy foods that 300 at bedtime only works most of the time.
As everyone has said, there’s no such thing as a “normal” dose because everyone is different. I take 900 mg at 8:30 pm so they are absorbed by the time i go to sleep at 11. My RLS doc said also that you should not get in bed until you are very very sleepy, not just very tired.
I agree completely with Lotte.
