Gabapentin

Hi Everyone. Need some advice. Doctor has prescribed 100mg Gabapentin, one to be taken daily for one week, then twice daily and the third week take one three times a day. My query is.....I thought Gabapentin should be taken in one daily dose in the evening. Does anyone know which way is correct.

It depends why you are taking it. It shouls be titrated up gradually- as your good and knowledgeable Dr is proposing.

If it's for neuropathic pain , then you will go up to quite a high dose throughout the day, and should consider Horizant instead- if available or affordable.

If for rls- then an evening dose is appropriate and 300 should be adequate for mild cases- but could go up to max of 900.

If rls is all day affair - then you will neeed the Gaba all day as well.

Gabapentin enacarbil( Horizant) is taken once a day in the evening. I haven't been able to get this in the UK so have Gabapentin which is taken three times a day as close to 8 hour intervals as possible.

The Horizant is slow release which is why you only take it once.

I take 600 mg gabapentin at 7:00 pm and 300 mg a bit before bedtime . Been working great!

I take 300 three times a day. It's for RLS which is in the night. I've had it for years and didn't have it when on gabepentin for shingles pain(on a massive dose then). It's gradually got worse since then until I realised I needed sleep! So been taking it for just a few months. 🙂
